I am a novice and don't know where to begin. I am looking for a spotting scope that can be used effectively at 100-600 yards. I am 65 years old with fair eye sight with glasses. What do I need to look for to get a spotting scope that I can see the bullet holes in the target? I have 7x35 binoculars and they are useless at 200 yards. I have a 4x9x40 Leupold scope and still can't see the holes. Your assistance is appreciated.

It's rare to be able to see bullets holes in paper targets beyond 300 yards with any spotting scope. Lighting and atmospheric conditions generally aren't good enough. Even the high end ones. Use Shoot N C or similar targets. With a decent spotting scope you can usually see those out to 500-600 yards. But you still won't see the actual hole.Rob Thomas - Match Director NCPPRC Tactical Long Range Match

They have daily deals (you need to sign up, but membership is free) - this Monday they have spotting scopes on sale (all under $200)... they often have Konus Konuspot80... its a great scope for the price - I've been using one for a while and it works great for 100+ yards... I did a bunch of research prior to choosing and the Konuspot80 gets great reviews across the board... one of the best bang for buck spotting scopes.
Also, red-dot-scopes has it for $208.95 shipped: http://www.red-dot-scopes.com/konus-...ipod-7120.html"Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment

Budget is huge when picking a spotting scope. and weather condition play a big role.
+1 for Edlacy and the Bushnell Legend 20-60x80. I have used that exact scope and have seen 223 holes in paper targets, in the white and black, at 400 yards. Perfect day, slight overcast, no wind, maybe 60-65 degrees. For a $450ish scope, you get ED glass which helps with the chromatic abberation or clolor blending. A 80mm lens also lets in ample light to allow the coatings to get the most light transmission back to you.
With that being said, in my own experience I have seen holes in reactive targets at 750+ yards and hits on metal plates at 800+ yards with the Nikon EDG, but thats a $3000+ scope.
Lots of models in between, but for around that $500 mark, I really like the Legend HD 20-60x80.
