    Lr-308 scope options

I have all the parts now for my 308 build, my 24" fluted ss barrel is at a gunsmith getting threaded and a comp installed. Then they will do the assembly for me. I wanted some advise for the scope should buy. This rifle will be mainly for mid to long range target shooting.
A scope i have chosen thats in my budget is a nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x40 with BDC reticle. Is this a good choice? Is it enough power for over 300 yards shots?
    .
    Thanks

The Nikon Buckmaster is not the scope to use for what you described. It is a hunting style scope that isn't for the long range target shooting you described.

You need a scope that you can dial your trajectory dope adjustments in and return to your zero. You need to advise what your scope budget is and go from there. There are low budget long range target scope options that are suitable for your use.

    Here's some reading material.

SWFA has some of their Super Sniper fixed power scopes in that price range.

A 10 power would work. The nice thing about the SWFA Super Sniper line is
SWFA has a 100% guarantee on them and they have a decent resale value.

Wotac also has some fixed power scopes in your price range.

Stay away from Barska, Counter Sniper, BSA.

Eventually, you will likely want to upgrade. When you do, you'll need to do some research. Depending on what you can afford, a good start is in the Vortex PST scopes. You will get a lot of opinions on what to buy when you are willing to lay out some serious cash.

Data Obtained on Previous Engagements) book and record your come ups with your ammunition at different yardages.

My personal opinion is to stay away from reticles with bullet drop compensating reticles. They are not as accurate as dialing in your come ups and they are calibrated to a specific load. They are seldom right on the money.

Once you get started, you'll want to get some mentoring from your local long range shooters. They are a wealth of information and can explain what you need and why. Getting out and actually shooting will help you understand all of this.

Nikon is an okay scope for a varmint rifle and plinking but if you try to use it for anything else you will be disappointed.

The IOR 3-18 I had was about perfect for your rifle. Until you can afford something like that get a 10X bushnell or 10X super sniper. Pretty much everything else for sub 300 (*******ESPECIALLY ALL THOSE CHEAP TACTICAL CHINESE SCOPES THAT EVERY RETAILER IS PUSHING THESE DAYS*******) will be junk so buy at your own risk.

I have the primary arms 4-16x44.
Quality rifle scopes including LPVO 1-6x, 1-8x variable power, and long-range optics. Primary Arms ACSS reticles, Vortex, Leupold, and more brands.

I can't say enough good things about this scope and their service. Marshall, their CEO is here on the site and went out of his way to take care of me.

Ive narrowed my search to a
Millett 4-16x50 tactical illuminated 1 mil dot scope
                  Or
Millett 6-24x56 mil dot glass etched reticle frm a buddy
Lets just assume these are the same price
Is the illuminsted reticle on the first one a better choice?
                  Thanks
