Both are excellent. I however like my aimpoint because of battery life.

I like the Eotech reticle better. But the aimpoints battery life and lighter weight are also really appealing. I'm really interested in that new Aimpoint T-1 that came out. Even lighter than the M-series.

It is a very subjective subject.

- Medically
Depending on what's wrong with your eye one type will work better than the other. Some people cannot use Eotech's while other cannot use the Aimpoint.

- POV
Some people are unable to focus on the target and will say that Eotech's have a bunch of tiny dot, other will notice a huge glare in the corner of the Aimpoint housing. Neither "problem" is an actual problem, just that the user is unable to correctly use the sight. Some people will cry about their "tunnel vision" with Aimpoints whilst other will hate the square window of the EO.

- Preferences
Some will like that the Eotech comes with a mount built in and is essentially a one stop solution. The Aimpoint is loved because you can mount it so many ways and height, making it truly versatile and with far more applications than the Eotech. Some people like that Eotech's have auto shutoff whilst other prefer it to be on and stay on like the Aimpoint. Some like the rubber push button and memory brightness settings and other prefer the click dial of the Aimpoint.

Some shooter prefer the Aimpoint, some prefer the Eotechs. The HSLD units out there that does massive amount of room clearings and CQB type work are all moving to or have already fielded Eotech's on the majority of their carbine. With the SF community the Eotech is very much loved, but the Aimpoint holds a greater share in the Big Army and is the issued red dot for most in the military. The choice is almost like the use of VFG and their placements. What work for you won't always work for me and vice versa.

If you own neither one I suggest you buy an Eotech first along with a "clonepoint". See which one you like more and either stay with the Eotech or step up to a real Aimpoint. The clones are much cheaper and operate on the same principles as the real Aimpoint, just WAY less robust and reliable. The Eotech's have no cheap alternative so there's no way to try them out cheaply.

You need to use both sight for at least a year until you will find one you like. And the choice will be pretty clear to you after awhile. Most people buy one or the other and tout their ignorant choice. Most of the Internet BS about them are from idiots who have never used the other or have only used each sight for short periods of time.

- My choice and opinion
I will give the Eotech the win as the foremost red dot for almost all situation. It's faster, better FOV, more precise and just overall a superior aiming platform. That said I only own Aimpoints now (sold of 3 Eotech's of different types) as that is what I prefer. I use Aimpoints (or a clone) on my AR, AK, FAL, M1A, 10/22 and anything else I can slap it onto. This keeps my optic choice uniform across the board and just make it simple on me. The Eotech's were clearly faster when I used it during some room clearing exercises but it is pretty much only viable on the AR and none of the other platforms. Because of the ability of the Aimpoint to be used on the all the other platform along with my preference for a circle over a square is why i chose the Aimpoint.

An Eotech 552 is coming my way and I can't wait to see how it compares to my other cheapo red dot sights. I think having the large FOV is a big plus.

Thats right get both you wont regret it. I have the 552 and the ML2 aimpoint is on my 308. eotech is on my AR.

eotech 552 for all the reasons listed. as for battery life well.. aa's vs a watch battery. when it comes time to buy new batteries you can buy a whole lot more for a whole lot cheaper for the eotech.

I have only compared an Eotech to an Aimpoint clone, but like the Eotech sight much more. I know I am using an Aimpoint clone to compare with which is not completely fair however it works just as great but I seem to like the Eotech type much more.

I've got an Eotech and I like it a lot. The wide FOV, the reticle design, and the intensity of the reticle are all plusses for me - it's a very quick and intuitive optic.

The Aimpoint's battery life is a pretty major plus, if you were going to use it for a SHTF or home defense gun. You can leave it on for years without running down the battery, and there's a lot to be said for being able to pick it up and use it without having to fiddle with anything.

An Aimpoint is nice but the higher-end models are a lot more pricey than the Eotechs.

Which Aimpoint is the best deal for the money? I see the 9000 / 7000 on sale on Midway.

I too went round and round with this decision. In the end it seem to boil down to picking a sight that had great battery life, or one that offered superior performance as a "combat sight". Not much different than buying a car, you can get one that gets great mileage or one that you can enjoy.

I like my Eotech 552. The field of view is awesome compare to other scopes.
The only thing I like more is a laser pointer.

1100 hours at setting 12 is good enough for me.
How long are you expecting to have it on?

I leave my Aimpoint on setting seven, 24/7. Change the battery once a year which is overkill.

My impression is that the Aimpoint is more robust. It is easier to operate too -- I can get to max power on the Aimpoint instantly.

I prefer the mounting options on the Aimpoint. It is possible to get cowitness with an Aimpoint on many guns that the Eotech is just too high for.

I do like the Eotech FOV though. I have Aimpoints on my AR and OLL AKs, and an Eotech on my SW-5 (HK94 clone). The Aimpoint tube does create a blind spot even when used correctly with both eyes open. Not a big issue.

Can you qualify this statement or is this just he-said she-said internet conjecture?

AFAIK, Both Larry Vickers and Pat Rogers, who are probably some of the most HSLD guys stateside are die-hard Aimpoint users and have stated this multiple times in print.

IMO, I don't know why everyone here is talking about "Field of View". You are supposed to use them with both eyes open, so your field of view should be unlimited and it should not matter how wide the window is.
