Some noob with an Eotech has ?'s

    Hey guys,

So I got my eotech today (xps2-0) and couldn't wait to put it on. So far I really like it. However I do have some questions.

-Do you leave the HWS on the rifle at all times or take it off for storage?

    - if you take it off and put back on will it hold zero?

    - if I leave it on is there a cover I can put on it to protect it?

    - are there dialed in from the factory or do I need to adjust it?

    - what distance do u usually sight in the rifle at? I was thinking like 75yards?

    - is my AR totally tacticool like yours?

    1. I don't know what HWS stands for.

    2. You can take it on and off and it will maintain zero.

    3. It's pretty sturdy, I wouldn't worry about a cover. They do have flip up lens covers.

    4. You will need to zero it.

    5. 50 yards zero is what I prefer.

    6. You may want a light on it.

      1. leave it on.
      2. It should hold zero but it's always good to re-zero if you take it off.
      3. GG&G flip up's or scope goat cover (you can find both on ebay)
      4. Not zero'd to your rifle from the factory.
      5. 25-50 yards.
      6. Tacticool enough.

        In red

-Do you leave the HWS on the rifle at all times or take it off for storage?
leave it on except while cleaning it
        - if you take it off and put back on will it hold zero?
The EXPS series is advertised to hold zero on it's own through many removal/attachment cycles. The XPS series needs a QD mount of some sort to have it really hold zero, but it will probably hold zero with the standard mount if you always mount it in the same rail slot.
        - if I leave it on is there a cover I can put on it to protect it?
It does not need a cover, but GG&G makes one if you think you want one. That cover is mostly to keep mud off the glass though...
        - are there dialed in from the factory or do I need to adjust it?
There is some variation in zero from rifle to rifle so it would be impossible to have a perfect zero from the factory for all rifles. You need to adjust it.
        - what distance do u usually sight in the rifle at? I was thinking like 75yards?
Zero it first to make it match the irons, then go from that. There are various schools of thought on zeroing distances. I am lazy so I just zero on steel at 100 yards, since that is the distance I usually shoot.
        - is my AR totally tacticool like yours?
Mine is featureless so yours is much more tacticool. Mine has a x300 flashlight on it though...
Edited to add: Please don't shoot your dog

          yup

Most of the questions were answered to my satisfation by others except a couple.

          1. If you take it off will it hold zero. Aswer is Yes.. IF you put it back on in the same exact spot. Moving it forward or backward upon re-install will change your POI.

          2. I personally zero mine at 50 yards...Most of your personal defense work will be done closer than that so aiming at center mass almost guarantees a hit. If you need it at a longer range it's about center at 200 yards. You use your 65 moa as a range indicator on a human. Fill it and he's at 100 yards half filled is 200 yards and 3/4s filled is 300 yards. I think that was how I read it.

          3. yes your Tacticool like us now....

Thanks for the insight fellas. If it wasn't raining all weekend I would be shooting it right now.

                    1. I never take off the optic

                    2. If you take it off and remount it would not be more than 1 moa off from your initial zero. This is stated on eotechs website. Mine remained zero even when i put it back on.

                    3. I use a scape coat for an eotech 510 for my exps and it fits great

                    4. The optic is not sighted in from factory, but usually takes me about 5-10 rounds to zero

                    5. I zero my optics at 50yds because you have POA/POI at 200-225 yards out
