Sighting in an ACOG?

Haha that's funny. When I got mine, a friend told me I needed to give it a good knock after making an adjustment. I didn't believe him. Then I saw a video on YouTube where the guys mentioned the same thing. I still think it's some kind of joke, but I do it anyway. I just make sure nobody is looking when I do it! Luckily, I probably haven't needed to make any adjustments in the past 5 months or so.

when i have made adjustments i have not hit the scope and all adjustments have made the correction that i wanted, with no other change in zero.

I have noticed that as well. Same goes for the Aimpoints I was issued while in the Army. I just tap on the side of the turret housing with a spent cartridge. Seems to do the trick...

Ha I do it just in case also. Also when no ones looking. Not like a whack is gonna hurt a acog.

I have herd of this trick before, so that's why I bring it up. This weekend when sighting in my new acog I kept adjusting with no results finally gave it a tap and I had way over corrected and had to work it back. Glad I'm not the only one.

Yep, smacking sets the prism. This is documented in the later manuals and in some FMs.

When I was in the Marines every time I made an adjustment to my ACOG I would smack it hard two or three times and this is how we all were instructed to use the scope. Kinda weird but it works and remains accurate.

It tracks perfectly. You just have to knock on it. I bruised the knuckle on my middle finger when I sighted mine in. But as I said, I haven't had to touch it since, and it has been removed from the rifle dozens of times. I guess the ACOG isn't for everyone. I didn't know I wanted one until I just happened to look through one at the local shop. Been sold on them ever since.

i didnt have to knock mine, it worked perfectly without it. i just turned the turrets and it made the proper adjustments.

You have got to be joking. You should never have to hit or tap your Acog. The reticle moves on its own.

At least mine does. I have the TA31f-RMR. Both reticles move on their own.

I just went and bolted my test TA31f-RMR on and it is gtg I have not had to adjust it yet...
