There are different types of long range shooting. There is also personal preference. Without knowing more about what you are doing, I'd suggest a 5.5-22x NXS with a NPR-2 retical. But, others will suggest a mil dot. If you don't need the amount of adjustment that a NXS has, look at the BR models.

I would go with a US Optics, 1.8-10x or a 3.2-17x with 37mm objective. The 37mm is perfect for the AR10, it keeps it low.
For the ranges you are trying to shoot (400-500) there is no need for higher magnification like 22x or 25x. Lots of guys shoot 1000yds with a 10x scope. A rule of thumb that a lot of guys use is 1x per 100yds.
If this gun is just for the range only (no hunting) you could go with a fixed power like the ST-10 and be good to go

Nightforce scope just work and are reliable in the long run. All brands will offer different reticle and magnification choices. You will also want to understand what a first focal plane scope will do for you and if that is a feature you want. Let me know if I can be of help.

I know people say you only need 10x out to 1000, but I love using 5-25x for shooting long range. Do your homework and try to see the different options. I like zero stop mil/mil and MTC (defined click at every 10mrad). For that budget the nightforce and vortex are great options, but take a look at Schmidt & bender,premier reticle or us optics.

I have been going with Leupold VX3 long range target... I have 8.5x25 (4) and 6.5x20 (2) all 50mm... side focus big good repeatable target knobs with covers. Been very happy and don't break the bank. Just picked up another 6.5x20 for $700 new (from a boat store). You can order Leopold custom shop for a different receptacle if you like. I keep wanting to get another Mark 4 Front focal... but I find these are just fine and work great. Had a night force and is good glass... was BR with front focus and just done with front focus... side rules...

My favorite I have seen was Schmidt & Bender Police but are $3500...
