    > The AA batteries can also take a crap and leak all over making a mess.

A very good reason to use lithium AA batteries.

Lithium AA are a viable option too, not sure about Eotechs, but some devices are sensitive to the higher 1.72V initial peak voltage. 1.5v nominal.

Just be sure NOT to use AA rechargeable Lithium (14500 cell), they have a nominal voltage of 3.6v (4.2v peak on a full charge) Guaranteed to let out the magic smoke out you wont be able to put back in.

The only time I would buy Lithium AA is for items used for LONG term storage, like a flashlight stored for emergency use, gun optics are also a great application, but from a price standpoint, great to keep as emergency spares since they have an amazing shelf life...

Eneloops are still the top dog option for AA in my opinion. They share many similarities to AA Lith primaries with the benefits of being rechargeable. Store life is 3 years and still maintains 75% charge. Cheap Chinese NiMH AA like Tenergy cells will be totally dead before the year is up... Cold weather performance, and maintain more consistent voltage and current over its discharge graph. Eneloops are 1.2v nominal, but will hold that voltage over discharge unlike an alkaline which is 1.5v but the voltage drops like a brick. This is extremely important when dealing with high performance electronic devices. The fear of leaky batteries is also gone when using Eneloop NiMH or Lithiums.
