    How do mil-dot scopes work?

do you just attach a cheat sheet to your dust cover or something?

im guessing that each dot denotes a certain MOA adjustment, so you have to calculate if you are moving from 100-300-200-500 yards? and calculate more for bullet grain/drop?

im not sure yet if i want a scope or a red dot. i also had a question about red dots- on something like an eotech, how do you adjust for distance? or do you not? are they just made to give you an area sight picture? i.e. you sight in at 50 yards and know that from 0-150 yards (or w/e) that you will hit a body?

I use a mil/mil FFP scope. I reload and have developed one load I use in this particular rifle. So I know how many mils I will need to dial in for ranges: 100 yards, 200 yards, 300 yards, and 600 and 800 yards.

Of couse these are starting points because conditions can mil setting. For instance for 600 yards if its cloudy and about 60 degrees I start at 4.5 mil

For 800 yards under same conditions I start at 7 mil.

For me mils are easier to understand, numbers are smaller, and everthing is in 1/10, i.e., 1 mil is 10 tenths.

Mil dot is used to measure distant. the dots are 3.6" apart @100y, 7.2"@200y, -36"@1000y.
If you know how big your target it, you can figure out its distant.
