Are you using a laser, or looking through the barrel?

Windage is normally described as "left or right" and not "up or down."

        Up or down is elevation.

What you need to do, for the first step, is take the scope when it is still OFF the rifle, and set the windage dial to the middle of the travel.

And then you also should set the elevation to the middle of the travel, but that is not your problem I guess.

Once the crosshairs are thus centered in the middle of the scope, then you need to use a laser boresighter and with the gun in a vice, mount the scope so that the cross-hairs are 1 inch or 1.5 inches or whatever the delta from the center of the scope is over the center of the bore, on your target, up on the wall, about 5 to 10 feet away (the further the better).

Then set your screws with clear fingernail polish, or with Lock-Tight (same thing).

It is a fun exercise, and a labor of love, and if you do it right, then it works fine.

Toss the laser in the trash and boresight it the old fashioned way.

Laser boresighters work great, actually. And once you get them properly doped and recorded, you can use them to verify your sighting, as well.

But you need to be smarter than it is. Or else it won't work for you.

Are you familiar with parallax adjustble scopes? Any thing over 10x has that adjustment also and can get complicated. Here is a link to info describing it.Not sure if this helps or not .http://www.larrywillis.com/tip015.html

BS. There's no reason to waste money on any boresighter for a bolt action. The smarter guy spends his money on ammo. BTW, after boresighting, it only takes one round to fine tune IF you are smart enough to know what you are doing.

If your in SCV, I'm in Castaic and can give you a hand if you like. With a bolt action, its just as easy to prop the rifle up, pull the bolt out and look down the barrel.

The really smart guy gets a laser boresighter, learns how to use it, uses it to boresight with, fires-in his rifle, then uses the boresighter to record the exact setting after firing-in.

I guess you missed the fact that it only takes one round to zero optics at any distance. So, the smart guy knows how to do a one shot zero instead of wasting time and money on unneeded crap. I've helped a 14 year old take am unsighted rifle and break a clay pigeon 1000 yards away on his third shot. He had never even seen a 1000 yard range before. So, if an inexperienced child can do it, almost anyone can.

Laser bore sights can lie - break, malfunction, not fit properly etc. The mark one eye ball looking through the bore of the rifle works every time

But you dont know for sure because you have not test fired it, right? The point is the bore site may be wrong/incorrect, etc. If you have a cleaning cradle or bipod, set your rifle up on the floor looking out a sliding glass window. Find a distinct object 25-50 yards away. Tip of a fence post, a street light, a street sign, etc. Pull the bolt out, and sight down the bore untill you can center the object in the center of the bore. Shim the butt of the rifle up with books and magazines untill it is centered on the object. Then without moving the rifle, look through the scope. Turn the knobs untill the cross hairs are on your object. This will be close enough of a zero to get you on target.

Ok, did a bit of research found out it has a 20 MOA scope rail. Would this have something to do with it?
