Steady Rest and Zeroing

Think I could get away with using the prongs that some shooting ranges have (rifle barrel rest)? I just don't know if I'd use this much, and still have a bunch other things to buy for my AR.
Still need: mags, BCM charing handle mod 4, Magpul ACS, and ammo aside from the stuff I already purchased.Comment

Most ranges have sandbags which will work just as good as any rest. Just focus on sight picture, and trigger control. If your having trouble thier are plenty of people out there who wouldn't mind giving you some pointers. After all, the firearms community is by far one of the best when it comes to good people willing to help others.Comment

Have you read some of the post that have been going around here...crazy, I thought so too but some of these guys are rough...lol.Most ranges have sandbags which will work just as good as any rest. I'm sure I'll get by just fine, if not, i'll take a class or something; some guys offer assistance with no real intention with going through with it...I find that funny.Comment

Ya depending on where you're at most places have bags which will be ok for ya just don't go long to start with go like 25 or as close as you can and slowly move out."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

50 is really good as it's poi at 200 is zero too. I just find it easier to start at the closest distance and slowly move out to your desired distance of 50 yards."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

I've got alot to learn...Won't that be alot of work? Are you saying to sight in at 20, 30, 40, and then 50yards?Comment

No... you can start at 10 yards if you want, then move the target out to 25, then 50.
Although it's a little unnecessary, since if you zero'd it at anything less than 50 yards, you'll be within inches of your point of aim at 50 anyway, so you can just re-zero at 50.
The only advantage to zeroing at a shorter distance, is that it's easier to just look at the target and see where the holes are to judge how much you need to adjust your sights.Comment

Like negolien said, 50 yard zero also gives you a 200 yard zero. Bullets travel in an arc, so they have 2 points for zero.
As far as the 300 yard POI is concerned(with a 50 yard zero), I suggest looking up some ballistic charts and getting familiar with understanding what you're looking at when you see one.Comment

Will do; I believe someone gave me a free ballistics program with charts, iir, just haven't looked into it yet.Like negolien said, 50 yard zero also gives you a 200 yard zero. Bullets travel in an arc, so they have 2 points for zero.
