    Question Regarding ACOGs

The tritium in an ACOG has about a useful life of 12-15 years, so Trijicon says. My question is regarding the Dual Illuminated versions: Does the daylight fiber optic channel continue to light up the reticle (as long as there is light) even AFTER the tritium has died? Or does the fiber optic light require active tritium to illuminate the reticle?

I really dont have a need for the tritium at night as I dont shoot at night, but if the fiber optic light were to basically die along with the tritium, I would certainly re-think purchasing this optic.

    Thanks for any insight.

The fiber optic does NOT require tritium. The tritium is purely a backup for EXTREMELY low light situations. (You have to ask yourself... should you be shooting at someone when you can't actually ID them?)

Thanks for the info. And I completely agree on that last part. It appears that the light output from the tritium alone is so low that it's nearly unusable except in conjuncture with NV equipment.

Its very dim, even in a new unit in an interiour room on a dark night with eyes fully adjusted to total darkness, but its a whole lot brighter than black crosshairs.

Keeps working. Tritium lasts a long time. Half as bright in 12.5 years.

Yes it will continue to work, they are two different things. However of course then, absent the tritium, the scope will not work so well in low light level situations.
