    SurefireX300 vs Streamlight TLR-1

So I'm in the process of outfitting my Kimber Custom TLE/RL II and I'm debating which light to get. I know Surefire's are fantastic...and EXPENSIVE. Since I'm just a crazy old Vet looking for a nice home defense weapon and not a Cop or somebody who'd have to depend on a primo light on the regular...is that near $300 price tag for the SurefireX300 worth it? Does the Streamlight TLR-1 cut the mustard just as well...and on the cheap (around $100).

    Opinions?

I've used both in a carbine 12 o'clock setup, and have to say the X300 is the better choice, IMO.

the rail attachment is better, the controls are better, and it's slightly lower profile that the TLR-1.

The TLR-1 was never un-reliable, but I just found the X300 to be a better, more refined product.

Only you can determine if these "features" i described are worth the $150+ more that the X300 goes for.

    Cheers

I have a X-300 with extended pressure switch on my Springfield Long Beach PD Operator and I love it. I do not have any experience with the TLR-1 so I cannot comment on it. If you do get the X-300 look into the extended pressure switch. It takes a bit getting used to but well worth it to be able to turn the light on or off by giving or releasing pressure on your grip.

I have had both and recently sold my TLR1S to get another X300. Both are nice, but I like the Surefire a bit more because it is a bit lower profile and has a better rail retention system IMO. You can get a new X300 for $200 these days if you know where to look.

                        I agree, that's why I went for the tlr-1
as well. Just like the OP, my primary use
                        is for HD.

Actually, you can get 3 TLR1s for the price of an x300 if you shop around.

I have a TLR-1 on my duty gun. This is not a safe queen that gets fondled every couple of weeks or sits in a nightstand. The batteries last for months and the mounting screw stays locked up tight. Zero issues, 100% reliability. The TLR-1 is an excellent light and a great value as compared to the X300. I never skimp on duty gear, but I don't see the need to pay double for what is essentially the same thing.

Both are superb products, and like most of the Surefire line, the X300 is pricy. The Streamlight TLR1s (get the strobe feature), is just a good, functional tool that will work and provide good service for considerable less money.
