EOtech EXPS3-0 + Primary Arms 3x or 6x... good combo?

I'm really enjoying my EOtech on my M4, but I have plans to do some more distance training soon.
The price on magnifiers is something that just drives me nuts, so I've been looking for a more affordable option, and came across the Primary Arms magnifiers. $100... that's more like it.

Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with these?

Also... 3x or 6x... Is one more favored than the other, or is this just a personal preference kinda thing?

    TIA

I was going to pull the trigger on one of these but never did for one reason. The EXPS 3.0 is actually 7mm higher than the standard EoTechs, this gives them a 1/3 co-witness instead of a standard co-witness. The magnifiers from EoTechs now come with a 7mm base extension you can use if you are running an EoTech with a higher base, but other manufacturers do not. =) Hope this helps.

You will need to be concious of the height. the EXPS3 has an optical center at about 1.75''-1.78''. Most magnifier will give you optical center at 1.5''. This is why the G23 with the 7mm riser is desirable. The Burris Xtreme tactical 30mm ring will put optical center of a 30mm magnifier at about 1.6''. Still offset but not as bad. Very imperative that the magnifier also has a windage and elevation adjustement. Vortex makes a nice model and they also use a swing mount in a higher height that is available through them. This would solve the 1/3 co-witness issue.

I tend to prefer 3x-4x, thats all you really need for use with a red dot.

Thanks for the info guys... I've started shopping around for a 7mm riser, but can't seem to find one. I've got an inquiry in to Primary Arms too in case they have a solution at hand.

Worst case, I'll just make a bunch... I do CNC machining. I'd be surprised if I was the only one wanting a low cost magnifier on an EOTech.

I'll take a look at the Vortex as well.

We have a tall flip to side magnifier mount that lines up perfectly with the EXPS.

Just select the tall flip in the drop down menu when you order the magnifier. What distance will you be using it at?

          Thanks

            Hi Marshall...

Brett sent me the info you just did, and I placed an order today.
I'll be using this out to 200 or so meters.

            Thanks all!

let us know how it turns out. I'm also lurking to do the same thing.

Does Primary Arms provide FDE, or a rubber sleeve for their equipment in FDE?

I have a ACR in tan I want to keep in the same color scheme...

Got my stuff, and tried it out.

I'm really happy with it. I got the $99 "deluxe" one, and it is quite excellent. I'm so glad I didn't shell out a fortune for the aimpoint or other magnifier... this one is great.
What the website didn't mention (or at least I didn't read), was that it comes with a bikini lens cap... which just so happens to be clear plastic. You don't even have to take it off, which I really like.

The optics are crystal clear too. For $100, you can't go wrong. We'll see how it holds up after 500 or so rounds... I'll post an update after, but right now I'm totally happy.
I'm going to grab a second one for the missus's rifle too.

FDE is being discussed for second half of 2012

This is interesting; I just spoke to someone at Troy today and he stated that "You should have no issue with the EXPS3-4, as it sits at the same height of the XPS. It is a newer configuration of the XPS."

But on the Eotech site it did state "Offering true 2 eyes open shooting, a transversly mounted lithium 123 battery, and 7 mm raised base offering iron sight access"

That Troy contact is wrong and the EOTech site is right.

I'm kind of curious about the 6x. I like it's eye relief better, too. It doesn't have a "deluxe" label on it, though it's the same price as the 3x. Anyone have experience with it?

why are height/windage adjustments needed on a magnifier? Doesn't the EOtech control the placement of the reticle?

No, there are typically height/windage adjustments on the magnifier itself to help you center the reticle. They don't affect the POI.
