    Red Dot Magnifiers (aimpoint... eotech... ? ? ? )

hey guys. it seams as though aimpoint and eotech only make a 3x magnifier... correct? i havnt been able to find anything more then that...

vortex makes a 3x... a couple other people make them, mako, primary, clones...

i was really hoping to find a 5x magnifier... i know mako makes one, but i wanted something a little more quality/name brand.

am i missing something here? are there any other 5x magnifiers out there?

    thanks in advance

I'm using a variable Lucid 2-5X magnifier behind an EOTech EXPS 3-4 (the one with the BDC). If you're using an EOTech with the traditional reticule or AP, I'd only recommend the 3X to save on the weight and size. And, you won't need the additional magnification anyway.

SuperSet is 100% correct about the 3X with the traditional reticule Eotech. The Aimpoint 3X is very very nice, I used it with my M68 Aimpoint(both of which are sitting in a box right now). I am going back to an Eotech....

        thanks super and mar,

i will be running it with a T1...

i like the idea of the twist mount so i only have it on the rifle when i actually need it and can also use the magnifier as a sort of scout scope...

ill definatly be looking into the lucid now thanks

You running a T-1? Definitely look through one before buying. IMO, the T-1 reticule looks like *** when it's magnified. It's a blobby mess.

ooo thanks... i never thought of that... i love the t-1. just figured it would be fine throwing a mag on it. why? prob because its magnifying a 4MOA dot?

im probly better off just running a t-1 then... and then when i want magnification ill throw on a $100 3x9 scope with a larue quick detach mount and call it good lol.

Take a pair of cheap binos/laser rangefinder or monocular and look through the T1 and you'll see what I mean.

Does the reticle on an Aimpoint PRO look better then a T1 when magnified?

I've heard that it does since it's 1) smaller (2MOA vs. 3.5MOA) and 2) larger glass area. I can't remember if I've tested that model so someone else will have to chime in.
For sure, I can tell you that the EOTech reticule is very sharp under magnification.

Same here. My aimpoint T1 and aimpoint 3x don't play well together. 3X and M4 combo is just fine. I assume it's a combination of my astigmatism, dot size (2 Vs 4 moa), and the amount of light each lets through, as the m4 has a larger tube.

The aimpoint in a larue flip to side mount is a slick setup. Be aware that it is lower 1/3rd height, and you'll need a lower 1/3rd (high) mount for your red dot also to have them line up correctly.

I have a couple of T-1s and an Aimpoint magnifier on a LaRue flip to side mount (highly recommended). I don't think the T-1 looks crappy through the magnifier, but I really bought the magnifier for an upcoming purchase.

I also have an EOTech with an EOTech Gen2 magnifier and it is OK. Frankly, a red-dot with a magnifier is a poor substitute for a good 1-4X scope like a Tr ijicon TR24R. With a magnifier you loose the nice eye relief and they are clunky.

I think the TR24R is very fast and the glass is pretty darn good, not ShortDot great, but good. And you keep the eye relief at magnification.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.
