Remington 700 Scope, mount, rings, tools question

So I need to get a scope for my Remington 700.

I want to use this for hunting, but would also like to bench shoot, if possible out to 600 - 1000 yards (do not know the chances I have of even going to a long range and shooting, but would like to try).

I was looking at the super sniper 10x42, but since it is fixed power, and thinking you can hunt in various conditions, that probably wouldn't be a very good choice.

I saw recommendations for various other scopes but I keep coming back to the Nikon Prostaff 3-9 ($149 SWFA).

I was going to get the burris xtreme tactical 2 piece base, Burris Xtreme Tactical 1" Rings (medium), Harris Ultralight BR Series S Bipod.

Good setup for what I want to do? Seeking some opinions. $362 w/o shipping for this set up. I also need advice on scope mounting kits, unless I can pay to have someone mount this bad boy.

    TIA
    Regards,

I'm in the same dilemma right now. If you want to bench shoot I would recommend higher magnification. 3-15x or even higher. Up to 10x would be good for hunting, but for shooting small paper targets at that distance from a bench, more magnification is desirable.

A fixed 10X is a horrible choice for a hunting gun there is not enough field of view to use it easily in the field. I won't even use it on my dedicated varmint rigs.

If you want to hunt and target shoot out to 1,000 yards take a good look at the 2-12X and 3-12X variables. You can find them from $200 up to $3,000.

Scope mounting is fairly simple as a lot of the rings now come with the correct size torx wrenches (allen wrenches). Look for videos on the internet on how to mount a rifle scope. Just remember to clean the screw holes, use some removable loc-tite and don't gorilla the screws.

Singularity, I can easily recommend plenty of more expensive scopes, but that's not gonna help you! I would suggest looking at the Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 though. It's only a little more money, good quality (made by Leupold), and higher magnification.

Contact Mike at CS Tactical. Being in the East Bay, you're only a short drive from his place in Elk Grove (just south of Sacramento). Tell him that I sent you and what you're looking for. I guarantee he can get you setup with what you're looking for.

Mike's a California company, a Calgunner and Supporter of Calguns. I always say that try to keep California dollars with California companies. You're not going to find a more straight up guy than Mike.

            Waiting for my items now...

Well I did research until my head was spinning.

I decided against a Mil dot scope, for now, since I would like to use this mostly for paper and hunting.

I searched around and found for all I wanted the best prices seemed to be on Amazon.

I got butler creek multi flex covers, burris 1" xtreme tac rings, sunshade, weaver extended multi slot 20 MOA rail, harris s-brm bench bipod and various other items I needed (like a gun vice), and the Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 BDC scope.

The scope, rail, rings, and shade (compared to other various good sites) were ultimately cheaper at amazon (about 30 dollars). I have a Chase Amazon rewards card, so when I buy from them I get points, etc.

Anyway, happy and looking forward to shooting this remi at the range!

Gun show in Vallejo to maybe buy some 308 ammo?

you might want more than 9x magnification for targets 600+ yards. Nikon and Redfield are good scopes if you have shallow pockets.
