Greetings all!
So at the OC gunshow I picked up an Eotech MPO-II. It was from a dealer with a very large and nice booth, with display cases full,of high-end optics... all the major varieties. In other words, it did not seem to be a fly-by-night operation. Despite this, I called up the EOtech counterfeit PDF on my iPad and went over it against the sight... I explained that I didn't doubt them or their integrity, but that with a purchase of this magnitude and the ease with which even reputable dealers can fall victim to counterfeit goods, I just needed to double check. They were cool with it, though they did state that they receive their products directly from the factory.
The point of all that is, I'm as sure as I can be that I bought a legit Eotech sight.
I do have a couple of questions, though, so if anyone who is familiar with these can help out, I'd appreciate it.
The sight component of the MPO-II is the "EXPS3". However, it's my understanding that there is an EXPS3-0, -1, -2, -3, and -4... how can I tell which one I have? I suspect it's the latest version, as the manufacture date, according to the sticker on the back, is September 2011; but there are no markings on the sight itself that indicate what model number it is. Is this common with Eotech sights?
The included manual is for the "EXPS3" sight, and is dated January 2010, so it's an old one. It indicates that there are two reticle options, one with a single dot and one with two dots. According to the Eotech website, the reticle has four dots in a line, and indeed mine does. So, obviously the manual is obsolete... is this any cause for concern, that this new unit has such an old manual?
The website doesn't even offer manuals for the EXPS series, just the XPS.
I plan on calling Eotech on Monday, but I figured that if I'm wondering about this, it's entirely possible that others have had the same questions and may have already figured it all out...
Thanks!
