How do you like the BUIS that come on your SCAR? I was looking at swaping them out with some Troy Micro sites...anyone else done this? Just trying to bring that site down some.

They work great for me. The rear adjustment was something I needed to research as it has the windage and elevation. But otherwise, I'm shooting great with them.

I've read a lot of your posts man, and you've already helped me out before, so your response was what I was looking for. I recently went out with a friend who is the armorer at Faith, he is used to using AR's and had a bit of trouble using my rifle because of the closed ring on the front site. He was also saying that because the rail is so high on the SCAR it will be difficult to truly zero the BUIS that they come with. I don't want to drop any more money on unnecessary upgrades, so thanks again MrPlink!

Yeah, the circular housing throws people who are used to USGI sights. I think subconsciously people want to line up the hood with the rear peep which isnt how it works.

Do you intend to use these as a primary optic? If not I wouldnt worry about the height over bore and setting a BZO too much, if its just an emergency back up. I think I set mine to 50y (or maybe it was 100? ha ha) and just forgot about em. Iirc the
owners manual describes setting a BZO for the scar if you really want to obsess over it

I don't intend to use as a primary optic, just wanted to get them dialed in. I think I'm going to set mine at 100 as well. I still haven't purchased my primary optic yet, probably why I'm obsessed on my BUIS zero. Thanks MRPLINK, BIG help as always!

I concur. I really like the irons that came on the the scar. You will need the long skinny style front sight adjustment tool to adjust the front sight post.
For an optic, I'm running an exps3-0 on mine. When I want magnification, I swap it out with
a ta31rco. My favorite buis of all time is the KAC 200-600. The scar one is very similar IMO.

I will add some comments about optics choices, but MrPlink is correct, the SCAR irons are very good. Set the irons for 50 yards (IMHO) and optics for 50 or 100 depending on the optic and your intended use.

As for Optics; EOTech doesn't work very well on the SCAR (IMHO) unless it is an XPS mounted all the way back against the rear iron sight. The reason for this is that the width and overhang of the mount/housing interferes with your hand when operating the charging handle.

This is true with many mounts as well. I tried most of the optics and mounts I have on the SCAR (I have a SCAR 16S @ a 17S).

Most QD mounts will interfere unless you can turn them backwards or you use an extended mount such as a Bobro extended mount (like a Trijicon TR126 mount) or a LaRue SPR-E. These extended mounts must be mounted as far back as possible to avoid bloody knuckles.

I've found that a Trijicon TR126 (Bobro) mount works well with the 1-4x scopes I have, and I'm currently using a TR24R scope part time.

I am also using a LaRue mount with an Aimpoint T-1, with the QD on the right of course. I have my charging handle on the left, as I am right handed and it is ergonomically better for me to have the charging handle on the left.

The other setup use is the LaRue SPR-E, which must be mounted all the way back. This setup still interferes a small amount at the end of my pull, but not bad. I use this on a SCAR 17s with a NightForce NXS 2.5-10X32, but it will work with other mid-range scopes.

If you don't need QD, just use rings or mounts with the bolts on the right side, or I should say, opposite side of the rifle from the charging handle. Or use rings with recessed screws.

Personally, I really like the EOTech, but it works better on my ARs. And I like ACOGs, but they don't fit my intended purpose as well.

Anyway, I hope you like your SCAR as much as I like mine. They are really a great rifle.

Mines great. Bought my scar used and previous owner must have set it at 50yards because I was almost dead on first time I took it out to the range.

Thanks for that info...very helpful. I got a TD ACH to try and resolve the optics problem...don't bother if you've looked into it...I think they present more issues. Thanks again!
