Is this spotter scope worth $80?

Tasco on sale at Big 5:

I'd probably use it about 5 times a year, which is why I'm not looking for one of the high end ones.

As long as you don't expect to see bullet holes at any distance more than 100 yards in bright daylight, it would probably be just fine.

That is the one i just bought. I will say it is ok. As said do not plan on seeing any 223 bullet holes at 100 yards on regular paper targets. Works great at 50 yards on regular paper target and for 100 yards and beyond i use those easy see bullet hole targets. So far so good. If you want crystal clear clarity at long distances then look else where.

+1. Save a little more money and buy something better.

A popular budget spotter is the Konuspot-80 20-60x80mm, which runs around $200.

Like with most optics, there's a certain price point where quality falls off pretty dramatically.

If you're going to get a Konus, get it from Jim Owens:

If you buy it from him at the $225 price (+10 shipping), he donates $10 to a junior shooting team.

Plus, he'll even buy it back from you for $100 if you decide to sell it and donate the scope to a junior shooting team.
