I looking to get eotech exps2. I'm probably gonna be using this for all my guns, rifles, shotgun, and possibly my pistol as well.

for those with quick release lever on your eotech. do they hold zero pretty well compared to screw type? and do they sit higher than the ones without quick release?

also what's the difference between the compact version and regular size version of eotech, other than its size and two batteries? let say 553 vs exps2

not looking for Night Vision since i don't have a night vision goggles.

I run an EXPS3-2 on my AR and will be getting another soon for my Sig 556. I previously had a 553 mounted on my Sig 556, but I've since sold it.

The EXPS (lever mount) has lower 1/3 cowitness on an AR, where the XPS series (screw mount) has absolute cowitness on an AR. This means the EXPS series is 7mm taller then the XPS series.

Personally I find the EOTechs (both XPS and EXPS) to be too tall for some applications, like AK side mounts or shotgun mounts, without also changing the stock or something else to allow for the extra height.

I would also find an EOTech to be too heavy for use on a pistol, but that's just me.

Be aware that if you are getting one optic to share between guns you will have to re-zero the optic for each gun, which could be a pain.

The 5xx series EOTechs are much larger and heavier then the EXPS/XPSs, and also due to the positioning of the battery the 5xx series can sometimes (but very rarely) become damaged on guns with very large recoil (50cal/12ga w/ magnum rounds).

Only get the 5xx series if you are looking to save money as the XPS/EXPS series is a major improvement over the older stuff in my opinion. The older optics are really single-purpose optics designed specifically for AR-type guns in 5.56/.223 where there is nothing else on the rail except for this optic. The newer optics allow for use on larger calibers and also on guns with less rail space (like optic+magnifier+BUIS on a gun with only a receiver rail)

It doesn't sound like it has/does anything different than the one I have. It just has that big logo on the side.

The OPMOD is just a EXPS2-0 (i.e. non-night vision one dot) version.

When OPMOD was first released there was no other way to get a EXPS2-0 as they only had the night-vision compatible ones on the market at that time.

Since then the regular ones are out so now it just has a sticker on the side.

lol that's funny, at opticsplanet, they are pretty charging you extra 50 bucks for OPMOD vs regular exps2. also when i spoke with sales representative from opticsplanet, they didn't exactly know what the difference were. He "believes" the brightness of the reticle and button functions were different. but didn't know how and why

I'm running an XPS-2 in a GG&G QD mount. Not a lower 3rd and holds zero great. Big fan of QD options, so I gave it a try. Glad I did. HTH

Isn't the difference between the XPS-2 and the OPMOD the added 7mm base that makes the OPMOD a lower 1/3 co-witness?

yeah that's pretty much it.
that gg&g sounds very interesting, since i can pretty much get any eotech and slap that on.

anyone know if the clarity of the reticles are different from each model?

ordered the eotech exps2-0, got a real good deal through Ares Armor in Oceanside. great guys as well. now i have to wait about a month

Originally, for 2010, the OPMOD version was made as a non-catalogued EXPS2 for one year. It had the QD lever with 7mm riser and side buttons, but not NV compatible. Offered in a one or two dot reticle. This is the same configuration as the current EXPS2, so EoTech liked it enough to make the changes permanently. So it is actually a deal when you consider what you're getting!
