Initial Sight Setup

Hello All,

This may have been asked before, I can't find the thread so I'll ask again. I just finished building an AR. It has the A2 front sight, and the bolt on carry handle rear sight. Since everything is new and purchased seperately, I will need to sight this in and I want to do it quickly (easy on the round count). Is there an initial or "combat ready" way to dial in the sights?

On my M1a there were instructions for adjusting the sights when new or after a major rebuild.

Get it on paper, then either print out or purchase some sight-in targets. Once you're on the paper, you should be able to get it sighted in within 5 shots max. 2 shots if you're awesome.

Never thought of doing it that way. Most of my stuff can't be set up this way. I'll give it a try,

Get your BZO first

If I recall correctly from my time in the service (and it's been over 20 years), we set our Battlesight Zero at 25 yards using the M16A2. Once we got our front sight adjusted properly, then we moved to the 200-yd line.

Here's a link with photos and instructions. I know you can find the BZO targets on-line, but you can do the same with any target.
