Larue Quick Detach Vs. Regular Mount

Is there an advantage to having the Larue, or for that matter, any regular mount scope base versus a quick detach one? Obviously, the QD has the advantage of being able to take it off and putting back on (What's the advantage of that?). Does the regular mount make it more stable?

The Larue... or ADM or Bobro... when you reattach, you don't have to re-zero your rifle, it'll still be aiming at the same spot.

LaRue anything is a lifetime purchase. Mark's stuff is the Snap On Tools version weapons parts. a lifetime satisfaction guarantee is SOP from the man who is "not happy unless your happy".

THe Dillo Dust is amazing too...

I'll say this. I'm down to one Larue SPR-E mount and the only reason that has been sold out for an American Defense mount is that I lost that whole rifle to my wife and she doesn't like changing anything.

I switched to American Defense as I felt that they're just simply better. Mike at CS Tactical introduced them to me when I picked up my Vortex Viper and I haven't looked back since.

Now...as for QD vs. fixed mounts, if you're not going to be switching between scopes, save your money. There are great fixed offset mounts out there and they're generally less than half the price of the QD ones. I have QD's on all AR's, but for 2 of them, since they're purpose built and those scopes stay on those rifles. The others, scopes get switched around depending on what match/event I'm shooting. If it wasn't for that, I'd have fixed bases on all my rifles.

          I own Larue, ADM, Bobro...

My favorite is Bobro... but I like Larue over ADM... I know the latches can cause a little scuffing but they feel so "right".... but theres nothing wrong with ADM, I use them too. Frankly, I'd just flip a coin.

As for the Fixed Mount thing... I agree with uscbigdawg, if you aren't going to be switching out optics, fixed mount is just fine. I actually wonder why I buy QD mounts in the first place, since I don't switch out optics... i just build another rifle. :P

I have ADM, ARMS and Burris PEPR - love 'em all!

LaRue and Bobro are quality mounts - but I didnt feel the need to pay more for them...

As for QD - I'm a big fan of them (slings and mounts)... on AR I like the ability to switch from RDS to longer range scope, and although I can use the irons with the RDS on, I like being able to remove if needed... on my AK the RDS must be removed in order to use iron sights, so QD is a must.

I also have an Atlas bipod with ADM mount as well as ADM QD magnifier mount... ADM gets really good reviews (and I agree they are quality mounts), but not any better than the ARMS or Burris (IMO) - they are all a bit different, but all worth having.
