    Need Flashlight Recommendations

    Ok, here's the deal.
I'm sick of buying CR123 batteries for my flashlights. Even in bulk they're expensive and with the advancement of other manufacturers using AA/AAA batteries, I'm not sure they're worth it.
Currently, I & members of my family have and use:
    Surefire 6P (with cree bulbs)
    Surefire E2D
    Surefire Centurion

I subscribed to this thread years ago, but it's 4 years out of date

I'm looking for recommendations of AAA or AA flashlights to replace those listed above. So similar size, weight and lumens would be preferred.

ETA: The reason I'm looking for replacements is because of the ready supply of AA/AAA vs. CR123A batteries, not because I don't like my Surefires.
I travel a lot and do carry extra CR123 batteries, but in case I'm in the middle of nowhere and need to get batteries for some reason, every single store will have AA/AAA's

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a AA or AAA flashlight just take more batteries to achieve the same light output and also go through them faster? I guess the advantage could be that batteries are more available though.

I'm very happy with my Surefire's and buying 123 batteries in bulk every couple years isn't a problem.

Streamligt makes some good AA and AAA led lights. There a lot cheaper than surefire and quality is about the same

avoid the aa and aaa batteries if you need a high output light. the flashlight ends up being heavier, requiring more batteries just to achieve lesser results.

Surefire is coming out with a new line of rechargeables and we as well as other surefire dealers should be getting them soon, i believe they told us around holiday time (thanksgiving christmas)

I really like the TK-15, get two 18650's and a charger and you're good to go

I never said Streamlight doesn't make good lights. I rolled my eyes at the comment that their AA and AAA powered lights that are "a lot cheaper" have quality that is "about the same" as the CR123A powered Surefire lights. Take both apart and then tell me that with a straight face.

Don't switch from Surefire! There is other solutions out there. Im currently using a G3 with an output of 460 lumens.
CR123s are expensive but if you buy them online they are less than buck a piece.(batteryjunction.com) And if you want to go with the rechargeable route they got em there to.
candlepowerfourms.com is also a really good site to find any answers you want.

Have you considered just getting rechargeable lithium CR123's?

I'm in the same situation as you are. I didnt want to keep going through 123s so I bought a stream light strion led and could t be happier with it. It's bright, rechargeable, and has 3 modes plus strobe. I use it when i go fishing and when im in the desert. I also got a quark aa and a small single aaa fenix with 3 modes. They're not surefire quality, but they're bright enough for what I need them for around the house tasks. I have a streamlight stylus pro in my shirt pocket for work (I work in an automotive shop) and its bright enough to see in dark areas under the hood. They're not surefire quality, but they get the job done at a cheaper cost and cheaper/easier to obtain batteries.

But I still have my surefire's, namely my g2 with an led drop-in right next to my bedside gun.

Look into rechargeable batteries. I got a few pairs of CR123's AA's AAA's. Its nice not to have to buy batteries for 1000 cycles on each.

I bought all my Surefires about 6 years ago when CR123's were about $0.50/each in bulk. I'm worried that reputable brand CR123's are nearly $2.00/each NOW.

Cheaper in these cases generally mean lesser quality/run time. E.g. Titanium's ($1.00/each) are 5/8 the run time of the better quality brands ($2.00/each) at 0.5 to 1.0 amp runs per the 123A Battery Shootout

No, didn't even know they were out there. Thanks for the tip.

But as to my original question, basically nobody has any AA or AAA recommendations except a couple posters? Bummer.
