    Debris inside scope lens ?

I just received via mail order a new Leatherwood CMR.

As with the reviews, given its price Im very impressed with the clarity, but I noticed today that there was a little tiny mark just south of the reticle. First impression was that obviously some debris got on the glass. I wiped down both ends, and nothing!

Upon further inspection, I noticed it was definitely not on the outside of either end.

Here is the thing, Im almost 100% sure it wasnt there when I first got it (it has been less than 24 hours at this point) what is the likely culprit here? Im new to the whole telescopic optic scene.

Either Im going to call both the vendor and manufacturer tomorrow, just wanted to get some input from you guys.

    TIA

Sometimes debris does come loose in a scope. US Optics, $1500-$3000 scopes, has this happen ocassionally as well. They state to literally hit the objective side of teh scope against a phone book on a table to knock the debris off the lens. This is just US Optics though, but this situation does happen ocassionally. I would definitely call Leatherwood, they might have their own in house solution for getting that debris out of the lens. If not, certainly return the scope.

hmmm, interesting. I will give that a run

EDIT FOLLOW UP: contacted both the vendor and manufacturer

vendor was great, gave me return authorization no questions asked, BUT

out of curiosity I contacted Leatherwood, and they informed me that it is a non-warrantable issue, and that they would not issue a RTV to the retailer. Hmmm...

Could try dropping it out of a helicopter like that Daniel Defense torture test video.......

Seriously though, I think lightly smacking the objective end against something pliable like a phone book or the palm of your hand stands a good chance of working. If the spot appears to be in focus, it's probably on the same plate of glass that the reticle is etched into. This should be located within the scope right at or slightly forward of the turrets.

Well I beat the crap out of the objective with an old midway catalog I had laying around...
No difference, but the midway catalog is all torn up!

Im thinking it might be clinging due to static?

Honestly I could live with it, Im just worried that one day it migrate over the reticle..

Just send it back to leatherwood with an.in explanation, and I'm sure they will either fix it or replace in worst case they will sent it back, but it's worth a try.

Rub the outside with a dryer sheet. That will settle it to the bottom. Might get lucky and it sticks to some oil or grease inside.

Don't beat it with the catalog. Beat the catalog with it. Might require something with more mass though. The debris will eventually fall of and get stuck on the grease inside. This is quite normal.

Thanks for the responses guys. Upon learning that this isnt a huge issue, I decided to keep it.

Furthermore I got restless and mounted it and sighted it in.
Outside of this little issue, this scope lives up to all the great reviews Ive read.
