ACOG TA33-8 to buy or not to buy?

Well my wallet its feeling a little heavy and my AR-15 it's feeling a li'l bald from the top, and i want to get this bad boy http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/292...0-mount-mattey what do you guys think, I already own red dots and scopes that i can throw on my AR but I want to make an investment "if you want to call it" on a good quality optic in my life time and TRijicON will be it.

It's a great scope. I have one and it's basically bullet proof. Super clear and the 3X is just the perfect amount of magnification. It's also relative small so it adds little weight and bulk to your rifle. Yeah it's expensive, but if you keep it forever then the cost over time will be nil.
    Poke'm with a stick!

Can't go wrong with any ACOG. Its a great match for an AR. I use mine from 25 yards out to 400 and have fun all day long. Tough as you get with optics.

I'm shopping around for prices and all are on the same price range + or - $10, any good prices on the net that anyone wants to share?

I have one and love it, but the light goes bad after about 10 years according to my owner's manual. You can send it in to get refurbished, the radium or whatever it is depletes over time. So, watch out for "last a lifetime". Mine is still fairly new and is outstanding.

I think it might still work in the dark but not be as bright.

They probably just replace the tritium vial.

If my wallet would just open a little wider id get an ACOG myself.

Part of my problem is cant decide on the 3x, 3.5x or 4x ...

If you can afford one, get it, very very nice optic.

Only thing I dont like about the 3x is the feild of view isnt very wide. Take a look at a 4x version and its night and day... But I like the overall size of the 3x more.

I have a TA33 with green horseshoe reticle and love it. It was a hard choice picking it over the TA11 & TA31 but I am happy with my decision.
                  - It is small and light weight (It might be the lightest of the 3)
                  - Good eye relief, not as good as the TA11 but better than the TA31. Specs say it's only 1.9" but it is actually quite a bit more.
                  - Very small FOV, it's about half of a TA11, but if you shoot using the BAC, then it doesn't matter as quite much.
                  - Smallest magnification, but hey it's only 1x less than the TA31
                  - If you have a FSB, then it may interfere with your sight picture. I could see a blur in the bottom 1/3 of my scope, which wasn't really a problem unless there was a light source behind me, then the FSB would be this glowing gray blob. I made it worse by switching out the original mount with an American Defense which lowered ACOG making BDC useless. I had to switch to flip up sights.

I would have a hard time switching out the mount!!! The BDC is one of the main reasons I am considering an ACOG in the first place...

I like to shoot at distance, and the more I shoot, the more I like using hold-over vs clicking away in the scope optics...

The "light" doesn't go "bad". The radioactive tritium gas in the ampule has a half-life of 10 years. It decays at a steady rate. In ten years, it will be half as bright as it is now.

If you're old enough to remember tv's with picture tubes, the tritium ampule works in a similar fashion. With a TV, there was an electron gun that illuminated the phosphor on the back of the screen. The decaying tritium gas illuminates a phosphor coating on the inside of the ampule. I've been able to find the occasional good deal at shows on ACOGs that are dim, with the owner apparently unaware that they can be serviced.

Night sights are the same way. I have a 10 year old set of Trijicons on a Glock 19, and while they are not as bright as a brand new set, they are certainly useable.
