Not another what scope to put on my AR thread....

Yup, the dupe police are gonna be pissed.....

So what type of optics should I run on my AR, I suck as a shooter and I'm trying to make up for it with cool looking optics.....just kidding. My eyes aren't as good as they once were. When I pick up a nice scoped rifle I can get nice tight groups....when I shoot iron's those groups open up a lot, so time to throw some optics on and see what happens. This is going on a run of the mill 16" 1-in-9" 5.56 middy AR with a flat top. For mounts I'm liking the Burris PEPR or the RRA cantilever mount. I hear great things about Burris scopes and I can pick up a nice 3x9 Fullfield II E for ~$200 all day long. I can also find a Zeiss 3x9 for about $400. While I could scrape up that much money it definitely risks the wrath of my significant other...Leupold's also seem to generate pretty good feedback. I care for good sharp optics, durability, and clean designs. I don't care to pay a lot extra for fancy tactical turrets, this isn't an 800 yard gun. This will be used for punching paper, and the once a year search for Bambi's Dad. (Don't lecture me on hunting with 5.56, I never see bucks anyways, only when I'm NOT hunting) I've heard mention of Millet scopes, anything else that's good on a budget?

    Thanks!

Take a look at the M223 series from Nikon. Ive used them a few times at different shoots and have been nothing less than estatic. I used their m223 3-12x42mm on a DPMS 308 and walked shots out to 650 yards with ease. Nikon also has their "Spot On" software, which is FREE!!!!, that you can match your exact load to the reticle. This saves a lot of time at the range and money on cartridges. Its a fantastic system that WORKS and is not a big price tage. It'll definitely help your groups out if irons arent doing it anymore.

I looked at those, it's $429 for a 3-12 Nikon, and $400 for a 3x9 Zeiss.....I also noticed the 223 series is calibrated for 55grn and I normally shoot 62grn or heavier....Thanks for the feedback though.

Look at the Bushnell Elites - they are decently priced with very clear glass. The old lineup 4200 series had superb glass but too bad they stopped making them.http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell...iflescope.html

I also shoot mostly 62grain, but I liked the Leupold Mark AR 3-9x even though the turret is calibrated for 55grain. I chose it primarily for the mil dot reticle, though, since I knew that was what I would come to rely on more than the turret once I learned the system. Even so, if you sight in with 55 grain the turret is still going to get you right in the ballpark out to 300+ with 62 grain, then you can use the regular markings on the bottom of the turret to make final adjustments.
I got a pretty darned good education in the use of the mil dot system by purchasing the Leupold.

Of course, if you aren't interested in the mil dots, you can also just have Leupold make you a 62 grain turret.

I'm not a leupold guy, but the 3-9X Mark AR seems like a pretty decent optic for the AR platform. As far as the BDC being calibrated for 55 grain, the trajectory of both the 55 and 62 grain rounds are similar enough that you shouldn't notice until it goes past 500 yards or so. Even the heavier 75/77 grain loads hold a very close trajectory out to 500.

Here's my 16" with the RRA cantilever and a Bushnell Elite 3200, to give you an idea what it looks like.

I have one on my latest build, the quality and features on these are pretty impressive for the price. Good glass (Not Nightforce good, but pretty clear), and excellent 1/4 moa clicks with over 130 MOA of internal adjustment.

The 2 you already mentioned I use on ARS.They are the best for the money I have found.I run the Zeiss on a coyote rig due to it seems to have better clarity in low light when the fuzzies are moving. It is also light.
