    Vortex PST vs Sightron SIII

I have narrowed my choices of scopes down to these two.

    Sightron SIII 6 - 24 x 50 MOA reticle and 1/4 MOA turrets.

    OR

    Vortex Viper PST 6 - 24 x 50 MOA reticle and turrets.

Both are available in mildot with .1 turrets (undecided on MOA or mildot).

The Sightron is $870, the Vortex $750. I am shooting at 100 and 200 yards, paper targets, trying to print small groups. I may eventually shoot to 300 yards on occasion, with 223 rounds, and in time, 308 or 260 Remington. I have read reviews on both and it seems Sightron is regarded more highly and I don't need the illuminated reticle of the PST.

For this kind of use, which would you choose and why?

IMO...I own the Vortex Viper and the Sightron SIII......glass on the Sightron SIII is better than the Viper. Sightron SIII also has a rock solid tracking system (Exac Track) for windage and elevation.

The only thing I would like to see on the Sightron, is ez-er adjustment on windage\elevation knobs for zero (old school allen screws for re-zero). Viper has the SIII beat in that respect.

I like 'em both....but, the SIII is the winner for me

Another vote for the Viper. I got mine at CS Tactical. Gotta love a scope dealer that's one of the largest in the country that's not too far from home (he's in Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento). Mike is also a Calgunner.

Give him a call for all your optics needs.

I was making a similiar decision to yours and decided on the Vortex PST. I desired more features out of a scope which is one of the reasons I went Vortex, but I also found far more positive feedback on the Vortex PST line that the Sightron III line. Additionally Vortex has that lifetime, transferable, no proof of purchase/ownership warranty. It sounds bulletproof and the people who run Vortex seem to have one stellar reputation.

+1 for the Vortex Viper PST!! You will not be disapointed. Great optics, great price, the best customer service!

Same dilemma as the OP. Didnt want to start another "What optic for AR?" thread. The Sightron SIII does have the traditional mildot reticle which I prefer. Still need to scrape up more coins for my Predator Pursuit upper.

If you want better glass, it's the SIII. Lifetime warranty as well with the SIII, just like Vortex.

Just curious....the guys who went Vortex (which I have 2 of, so I'm not a hater here)...have you actually had the chance to look thru\use a Sightron SIII, to compare?

I got my pst the day mike at cs tactical recieved the first shipment in june of '10 its been a great scope since then, for the money.

Mike is a great guy to deal with, I dont like buying anything expensive in Ca because of the sales tax, but if Mike has it, I buy from him.
