    which one

    Nightforce BR 12-42X56 NPR2

    Nightforce BR 8-32X56 NPR2

these are my two uneducated choices to be mounted on a savage 308 fcp k
for up to 800-1000 yds hopefully some day. only want to buy one scope one time for this gun. I value your experience and knowledge for long distance shooting steel targets

If you're shooting steel instead of tiny groups, you probably don't need that much magnification. Given that, I'd probably take the 8x32 because you're going to find more use for the lower range than the higher range in most circumstances.

Shouldn't be a problem. You may need to get a mount with some built in elevation. This scope has a total of 50 MOA of travel so you'll probably need a 20 MOA mount to go to 1000 if you zero at 100.

If your planning on a Nightforce scope spend a quarter and call Bill Shehane at his shop in North Carolina. He is multiple world record holder on several distances and also just happens to be a dealer on these scopes. He can advise you on a correct scope for the rifle and distances you want to shoot accurately. Try the above site for all of his info. You won't be sorry for the time and quarter to call him.
