    Inexpensive scope for AR-15

I'm starting my first AR build and want to start thinking about optics, just looking for an inexpensive scope or red dot to use for couple months then I'll upgrade to something better. Looking to spend around $100-150. Mainly shooting around 50yrd, 100 max.

Can I suggest iron sights? There's really no reason to get a cheap temp optic when you're shooting those distances. Just get your rifle zeroed and broken in with irons and then when you have the money pick up the optic of your choice.

I am using a 3x7 NCStar successfully out to 200 yards with no change in accuracy after about 1000 rounds. I think was $125

I would agree with Brando, for 100 yard shooting or less irons would be the way to go so you can save up for a something a littl ebetter. If you just want something to have a littl emore fun now, take a look at this from Bushnell:

2-7 magnification, definitely make 100 yards pretty easy for you. Remember you need a 1.5'' optical center on an AR, so choose your mounts accordingly. Usually extra high rinsg do it for you.

Check out some of the red dots from PA. With a red dot you can easily hit the 200yd steel plates.

I have the Bushnell TRS-25 but you can't co-witness without some riser on a flat-top - only cheapy risers available. I would just make it easy and get the PA MicroDot w/removable base and PA detachable mount - works great (Bushnell side by side to PA, the PA microdot is better - I own both got the Bushnell for $69 Amazon plus rebate in process maybe $39?). I will be attaching my Bushnell TRS-25 to my RRA carry handle for co-witness.

+1. If you can't hit 10" circle with irons at 100 yards, glass isn't going to help you.

I would go so far as to say get a spotting scope before optics. But I learned on iron sights first so I guess I am a bit old school.

My eyes aren't what they used to be -

So I vote for the Vortex w/2x magnifier for 100 yards.

                  5x magnifier out to 400.....

I'm in the market for a red dot sight as well. I have been looking at Lucid HD7 its $100 over your price range.

With the distance you specify, irons will serve you well. Depending on your upper and skills, you could easily get 1" or less groups with irons. Just need ammo and practice.
