Decent Spotting scope?
Tags: None -
I spent a bunch of time researching a week or so ago... narrowed it down to Konus 7120 and Alpen 788... both get really good reviews (far more info/talk about the Konus than Alpen though)...
I was really interested in the Alpen - but stayed on the safe side and picked up the Konus. I have not read one bad review of the Konus and most people say its the best spotting scope in the low to mid-price range..
Konus is low $200 (got mine for $208) and Alpen is about $100 more... I just got it last week so havent been to the range with it... but have played with it a bit outside around the house - clarity is great to 50X! (after that its okay, but not as good) - Construction is good, tripod is cheap (common complaint)...
I'd recommend it over the lower priced scopes (based on what I've read about Burris, Barska, Tasco, etc)... The Konus was worth it imo."Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. Trump -
I was searching the forum for tripods and came across this thread - regarding the scope you are considering:

I've been looking for one too. I got this one ordered from Amazon.com. The Barska Blackhawk models are usually rated better than the Colorado series on the same variable power levels

I don't know much about scopes in general, so this is just my experience.
Stated with NC Star 20x60. Don't remember what it cost but not much (relative?) Figured usually shooting a 100 or so. Well you can make out hole's (usually). Over about 40 power it's not worth a dollar, tripod is cheesy, etc. It's my loaner now.
Went with a Celestron 90mm Maksutov. They are fixed power. Mine came with two lens's, many others lens's are available. Not sure what power I'm using exactly, but the target is crystal! You can find them well under $200.
I think they are intended for star gazing and bird watching. But you can see little holes real, real good.
Mine came with a pretty nice tripod and backpack/case. You can attach a camera too if your in to that sort of thing. The sighting scope, on the side, is 8 power.
It works good and I'm liking it.
