Can't adjust Elevation or Windage on Scope

Ok... just got returned from the range yesterday. Paid $20 range fee to test out my brand new .22 cal Remington 597 with stock Remington badged scope.

What a horrible day! Shot my first group. It all hit around 8:00 o'clock low 12" inches out...

No problem I thought. just remove the caps and adjust those little windage and elevation knobs and let's walk the shots to the bulls eye.

Only problem is, no matter how much I turned either the windage or elevation dials, the reticle did not move?

This is the stock scope that came with Remington .22 597. Not sure who the manufacturer is.

Does anyone know of this or a possible fix without me have to travel a distance back to BassPro Shops?

Sigh, what a waste of $20. Lesson learned, bring a secondary firearm...

I ended up aiming completely off the target simply just to hit the bullseye by pure guestimation !!!

Well at least I put a few hundred rounds just to *season* the bore...

Sounds like the erector spring has fallen out of place inside the scope. shake it around a bit, does anything inside the scope rattle? Best bet is probably to just get a new scope of somewhat reputable manufacture to put on the rifle.

Explain your sight in process better. What do you mean by "the reticle did not move"? What distance were you shooting at? From a bench? Off hand?

Shooting both from the bench and off the hand.

Simply put, the cross-hairs will not traverse up or down, nor left or right when rotating the knobs in either direction.

Yes, that was my Plan B if I didn't get any possible solutions from this thread on how to fix it.

It was worth a try anyway ...Thanks!

Just to clarify, you would look through the scope at the target, and putting the reticle on the point of aim, then while still looking through the scope you tried to adjust the windage/elevation to move the reticle to the bullet hole and nothing happened?

Yes....It looks like a mechanical failure on the scope.

I hear the clicks but no noticeable movement of the cross hairs even at maximum left/right settings of either windage or elevation knobs. It's really a cheap scope even when looking through the glass. I would say similar to a Tasco $15-$20 scope variety. I'll just see what Bass Pro Shops will say or offer when I return it to the shop, like whether they will substitute it for a working one or give me a store credit to buy a upgraded scope. Who knows, they might just say tough luck?!

The cross hairs aren't suppose to move from the center of the image circle. Brace the rifle/scope and crank away at the knobs while looking through the scope and you'll see the target move.

Yes you are correct, No matter how much I turn the windage or elevation knobs the bullets always hit low left at the 8 o'clock position.

So at the end I just *enjoyed* myself shooting 200 rounds guesstimating to hit the bulls-eye just so i don't waste my $20 range fee that day ...

the crosshairs aren't supposed to move. The image behind them will appear to.
