    Nikon M223?

I just finished an AR build, but I still need an optic. I'm leaning heavily towards the 1-4X Nikon M223 with the Nikon mount. Does anyone here have experience with this scope? If so, is it compatible with BUIS? I'm using a set of Troy flip-ups.

    Thanks.

Kam, I've spoken to a few folks and most say that using BUIS with many of the AR style scopes will not work. I have 2 of the Nikon M-223 1-4 Point Blank Reticle Scopes mounted on AR style rifles with Nikon's M-223 mount. I have not needed a back up ever for these. I understand why you would want this, but I also think it may be a give and take to have it. I can confirm that this 1-4 scope will work with the front iron sight in place. I have looked through a number of AR rifles with a front mount and the Nikon 1-4 mounted on the M-223 AR mount and all worked well. I hope this helps?

I am using a similar scope with a Burris P.E.P.R mount and I have a Magpul MBUS in place at the same time. I have an A2 fixed style front sight post and its not visible at all through the scope.

Thanks for your thoughts. It looks like the M223 is a viable option with the Troy flip-ups. The reason I want to know if it is compatible with the Troy is because my ARs are first and foremost fighting guns. That may sound mall ninja-ish, but as much fun as guns are for plinking, training, and hunting in the back of my mind my AR's primary purpose is for serious and social purposes.

Here is the gun that needs the optic.

Do not buy anything Nikon - period. The cameras are great but the Nikon Monarchs that I have purchased are not optically up to snuff. I have one in the safe that has been back to Nikon, but still has a low contrast out of focus picture. If you look through them side-by-side with several other brands you will see the difference. It is somewhat interesting that many of the Nikon dealers, such as Natchez, etc. have large selections of refurbished Nikon scopes available.

I don't get why M-223 don't come with a BDCC turret and BDC cross hairs this would allow you to have quick acquisition and full zoom

I like scopes. I can hit a man size figure at 500 meters with irons but with a scope I can hit the head!

1, Nikon's BDC scopes will work for wind adjustments. You just need to check out Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program. This will let you enter the wind speed, direction and get the corresponding correction in whatever increments you choose. You can even pick, enter current conditions from the iphone app and it'll put in the conditions from your location. Go to Nikonhunting.com, click the Spot On logo, register (it's FREE) and see if the information doesn't help make you a better shooter.

The Nikon M-223 scope is really a quality scope. It is the #1 scope for us, on ar's the 1 piece mount is also our top selling mount. I like them so much I actually put one on my personal gun here is a pic.

As far as Nikon being inferior to other brands I dispute that claim. I handle these scopes everyday. I carry all brands and I have MOUNTED Nikons on my weapons.

                    Hope this helps!!

Island, Great Pics and thanks for the vote of confidence! How do you like your CMMG?
I know the big Promotion Nikon recently had giving away a free M-223 AR Mount with the purchase of a Nikon M-223 Scope was an absolute hit with many retail sellers running out of product. Like anything , you have to find what is goign to work for you and stick with it. At the same time, having an open mind and willingness to listena nd try new things can be productive as well.

Yes, irons will work. Run a course or two with just irons, and back in my day my issued rifle had an A1 carry handle. But we've made some advanced in technology since my days in the military.

A lot of stuff is just plain faster with optics. Especially when it comes to shooting from your support side or non-standard positions. These days speed is valued just as much as accuracy. You need to achieve both. Optics help with that.

Personally I am more of a red dot guy. magnification will get you killed close up and I don't like dealing with the tube effect of variable scopes during CQB, and the reticles/dots are easier to pickup on a red dot than a scope meant to double as a precision scope. But if you are going to be shooting on a range or hunting game then the magnification comes in handy, and you can still make it work for CQB.

As for the Nikons, I've owned their tactical series scopes before. A little on the beefy side, but very well made and very nice glass. The 223 series is building a good reputation as an "every man's scope" thanks to a reasonable price range and excellent quality.
