    AR-15 iron night sights?

has anyone had any experience with these? they just replace your irons so you have glowing dots. are they worth it? i have tritium night sights on my pistol and i really really love them. Just wondering if anyone has ever used anything like these on an AR?

here's some i found with a quick search just for the heck of it (second from the bottom):

Save you money and do these things instead:

    1. Add a weaponlight. If you're going to shoot your weapon at night, you better see your target.
    2. Paint your front post with a bright colored sharpie/model paint.

For #1, a very good, inexpensive option is the VTAC mount and Surefire G2. you can get this combo for $74.

trijicon has some tritium night sight replacements for the ARs style front post and rear peep sight

        but...I have 1 serious question.

on the front post sight, it has 4 sides so that the shooter can adjust for elevation. does that mean you have 4 dots? that would mean enemies could see you just as good as you can see your own post @ 3,9 and 12 positions. but let's say there's only 1 tritium bead, in that case do you lose 4x the resolution/granularity for elevation adjustment?

Paint works but the tritium lamps they use on the trijicon, and meprolight sights work much better. You get what you pay for.

Weapon lights are good for lighting up the area or blinding the target

I cannot recommend either of these: YHM-9627 or YHM-9680. I had them both on my AR and had nothing but problems. I went with Centurion Arms sights as a replacement. Once you get a light and maybe some optics, I would recommend getting a backup set of iron sights.

                Meprolight

I have a Meprolight Tru-Dot Front Sight AR-15 Steel Blue Tritium Green installed on the regular "A Frame" front sight/gas block, and I think it is cheap insurance for when my weapon light and fancy red dot fails. Dont go with the paint.

You adjust the Meprolight front sight, for elevation like normal. Then once "dailed in", you are able to spin the tritium insert around till it faces the shooter. The front sight detent pin then locks the tritium post into place. Very easy to install.

you would paint your post AFTER your irons are zeroed.

i got some night sights upgrades for my troy's. there nice but not as nice as the ones for pistols. pistol sights are larger so you can see them really good. the front site on my ar is smaller since the post is smaller.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was worried about not being able to see them as well as my pistol sights like Digital mentioned. I think I'll go with the cheap ones from midway since these don't appear to have a great track record. $36 is cheap enough I'm willing to gamble on. But like I mentioned, I think I'll be getting a light that I can attach if the need arises.

The top part of the post rotates around, and gets blocked off by the specially designed plunger. So you get full adjustability and the dot is always facing the correct direction.

Night sights are not as much for the "night" as they are for dusk. A time when a flashlight and neon colored post will not help.

The front sight is easy to install, provided it will fit in your front sight post hole. For some reason, it will not work on my CMMG because the hole is too small but will work on all the other ones I have tried including a flip-up Troy front sight.

Some flip-up rear sights are harder to disassemble than others as well. It is a lot easier on carry handles (fixed or detachable) than aftermarket sights.

You have to bear in mind. There are thousands of people making these things. Not everything is 100% the same. So sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not.

However, Tritium sights are a really nice addition to a rifle. Especially if you are running irons only and not running a red dot.
