    help me understand my scope

i got a scope to play around with

its a NCstar 6x42...i bought it used and cheap it didnt come with instructions and I am a complete noob when it comes to scopes

i need help with 3 things

1 knob on top is the range finder? has 5 settings ( 1-5 ) can some1 explain me this feature? when i change settings 1-5 i cant tell the difference...

2 the knob on the right has 0-14 dial.... and it reads "1 click = 1/2 min" please explain the function of this knob

3 i think this is a quick focus type of knob.. right? ( finger pointed)

i believe the top knob that says range is an elevation turret. The one your finger is pointing to is a quick focus knob and the turret on the right is for windage. Unless ncstar does something funky this should be correct.

Ya, you won't see any apparent change using the range knob. As you move it out towards "5" (500 yards) it is gradually lowering the crosshairs, but they always appear centered in the scope's field of view.

To see what it does, you need to set it to one extreme or the other, lock the scope down with the crosshairs on a pinpoint object... then adjust the knob and you'll see the crosshairs move up or down a small amount.

That is a compensation for your bullet drop.

Now, is the scope designed for a 5.56? If not, the bullet drop will not be correct. A faster bullet will drop less, a slower bullet will drop more.

i have the 3-9 model of this scope you wont be too dissapointed.
the knob on your right (from looking down the scope) it to adjust your bullets impact left and right. 1/2 moa is the amount of adjustment that one click equals. one moa at 100 yards is roughly 1" so one click moves your impack Left or Right a 1/2 "

the knob on the very back of the scope is to focus your retical. get behind your scope with your eyes closed open them and your first impression before your eyes adjust should be clear. if not focus and repeat.

the knob on top is where this scope is lacking. its a rough adjustment for a 5.56 bullet. probably 55 grain. it will get you close. you have to take off the top cap with a sloted screwdriver and there is a different know that will make 1/2 moa adjustments in elevation( bullet will impact up and down )

the knob on the left is you illumination. obviously.

you have the scope mounted kinda far back from where i had mine. you should adjust in forward untill you have a clear defined circle. not fuzzy of shadowed.

i had my scope mounted on an ar for a few thousand rounds and it never broke, kept zero and hammered steel easily out to 500 yds.
