scope for remington 700 5r

Looking for rings, base, and scope for a new remington 700 5r (.308). Was looking at nightforce, but then looked up a leupold and saw the huge price difference. There's a Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm for about $1,000 compared to a 5.5-20x50 nightforce for almost $2,000. Is there that big of a difference? It's my first long range rifle so I'm sure I will need lots of practice.

Any input is appreciated and other recommendations are welcome.

Nightforce are practically unbreakable and a great value. But your decision should be based on what you want to do with your new rifle. Shooting comps? hunting? just plinking around...?

Might want to look into the new Vortex PST or the new SS, both in the $800 to $1000 range.

Depends on what is your budget. I have rem 700 pss with a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50mm NP-R1 and I love it it's nice. My Friend has a Rem 700 5R with a Smidcht & Bender 5.5-25x56mm and wow!!! It's nice you can definitely see the difference from my nightforce and the s&b. I'm gonna be doing the same set up as my friend I got the 5r on layaway and I'll have to save up for the s&b. You should look at the Nightforce you will really be happy with it

I have a Leupold and I also use a Nightforce before, can't really tell the different. The Leupold is still doing the job well right now. Save your money for ammo and range time.

The Mk 4 is a really nice scope. Mine's absolutely clear and crisp, adjustments are precise, and did the full elevation/windage circle putting the last bullet on top of the first one. This is on a Badger 20MOA mount with Burris rings.

Both are great scopes. I have had both and no problems with either one. My 5R started stock with a Mark4 I then added a AICS stock and switched to the nightforce. There was a difference in my opinion. The glass appeared to be clearer but the biggest difference was in the turrets. I have the zero stop model which is a great feature to have and the clicks in the turrets are much nicer in my opinion. Last year I removed the nightforce and now have Premier Heritage on top of my 5r.

Both are good scopes. The Nightforce will have better turrets and have slightly more durability.

if you can still get one, the SS 5-20x50 HD is a DEAL of the day.

Also for the dollar the Vortex PST are a great way to go.
