    Need Experienced Help With Optics

which of the three options provided would you choose for a ar-15 optic? will be using it mainly for plinking at the range but if im going to spend $200+ i would like it to work well for hunting and tactical situation if the need arises (zombies, end of the world,etc..).
    OPTION # 1:
    LEUPOLD VARI X II 3X9 40MM
    OPTION # 2
    LEUPOLD VARI X III 2.5X9 36 MM
    OPTION # 3
TRIJICON REFLEX 6.5 MOA DOT RETICLE

thanks for your help guys i really appreciate your opinions and advice.

Options 1 and 2 would not work in close range situation... the lack of eye relief would make you zombie food. For longer distance work, i'd choose Option #2.

For close up work, the Reflex.

You should look at a good variable scope (1-4X) if you're thinking hunting + 'tactical' situations. I've taken my Trijicon TR24G to numerous carbine classes and hog hunts back in OK. Excellent, all around optic.

thanks guys, that helps alot. a friend was gonna give me a really good deal on the leupold of my choice (about 40 percent off of regular price) but it still would have been over 200 bucks and i would rather put that on a more appropriate scope. just wasn't sure which one is a good kind of "all purpose". im a noob and like to hear opinions of the more experienced. thanks again.

Variable scopes as well as 1x sights. I don't suggest sights with large MOA dots if you plan to shoot a longer distances.

Vortex Viper PST 1-4x might be in your price range... good luck getting one though.... always backordered.

For $500 I'd personally get a red dot of some kind.

I use these and I like them, problem is they are more like $270 to $300

Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR Duplex Riflescope
Nikon 1-4x20 M-223 Matte Point Blank Reticle

They are lite weight, give you point blank to 300 yard usage and are made for 556 AR's

I'm with everyone else that said 1-4x. You give up very little with a 1-4x yet gain usuable magnification out to 400m.

Burris Tac30 1-4x24 $270-300. Bright optics with a useful illuminated reticle.

ETA: The 1x setting appears to be true 1x. Very easy to use for CQB with a great FOV.
