I have an AR15 and noticed they make one specifically for the AR, but is there really a big difference versus the other Nikon scopes? The AR one is like $365 and there is a similar one for $165 both are Nikon. The ad talks about being designed for the .223/5.56 bullet. Could any scope be dialed in without regard to the bullet? I have no idea, so if anyone can explain or maybe it is just marketing to get peeps to buy more scopes.

Nikon M-223 scope
The Nikon M-223 1-4 which you are talking about will essentially be right on target from point blank to 200 yards if you sight in for 100 yard. This scope has been a hit for many guys who are not into long range shooting and just want be able to get on their target quickly and make a hit.
As for the other M-223 Scopes. They are designed to work with the .223 cal., a 55 gr. bullet that has a MV of 3240 fps. I have had the pleasure of shooting these scopes on rifles at 600 yard ranges and it is an absolute thrill to go 5:5 on a 10 in. steel target at that distance.
I posted earlier, Nikon has their huge M-223 Promotion going on right now till May 31st. Buy any M-223 Scope from a PARTICIPATING dealer and get a FREE m-223 AR Mount at the time of purchase from that dealer.
Pretty great deal, will save you about $100!
Only 2 more days though.
Here's asite where you can find a PARTICIPATING dealer. The promotion has gone so well many dealers are sold out!

You'll find another short thread about that scope here. Bottom line like everyone else Nikon has multiples lines/grades of scope and excellent products at each level.
BDCs are at best rough estimates good enough to get a hunter in the vital zone, but not much good for target shooting (see other thread)."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

Sholling is correct that if you want to target shoot for fine accuracy the BDC reticle isn't the choice, obviously the right tool for the right job comes into play here. When we were shooting 600 yard targets, we put out more then a doz. 4in. jars of tannerite for guys to blow up with multiple rifles and I would think connecting on a 4 in. target at 600 yards counts as decent accuracy. We used Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Match Program to dial in the BDC reticles to our ammo.
Check it out if you have not already. Go to Nikonhunting.com, click the Spot On logo and register (it's all free and you won't get spammed) Then take a look at all the information you can utilize.
