I hate vertically split rings. They're just a PIA to install and you can't easily lap them. You don't say what it's going on. For hunting rifles I like Dead Nutz (Now DNZ) Game Reaper or Burris Signature Zee on a Leupold Weaver style bases. For extreme non-AR duty I like Burris Xtreme rings. For ARs I like La Rue Tactical LT-104. Yes the La Rue is vertically split but I make an exception for them

What gun is it for and how much can you spend on it?

It will be for a Remington 700 .308. I might use it to hunt some day but it will be for punching paper for now. I still want somthing rugged though.

Either one will do. I like EGW because they have more left handed options. You'd have to work awfully hard to break either one.

If money isn't an issue, check out badger ordnance or night force rings and scope bases. Mounts and rings are crucial for you optics. If you have a high end scope I would not skimp out and get cheaper rings and mounts.

Might want to take a look at the TPS products that SWFA sells.
