    Nikko Striling question

I have a Bushnell Banner 3.5x10 on my 17 hmr, but am looking to upgrade. I was thinking of the 4x16 Nighteater. Anyone used one??? I shoot mostly 50 and 100 yds. Targets mostly.

I had the 4-16 that came on my Howa 1500. Unfortunately, never looked through a Banner, so can't compare the 2. If you search around on the net, many bash Nikko Stirling scopes, but it was clear and bright to my eyes. Only shot it on a .223, but it kept zero. Dont know about accuracy of the windage and elevation knobs because I left them alone after I zeroed. I compared it to a Nikon Buckmasters I had, and to my eyes, the differences were minimal, with the Nikon slightly brighter. Scope is made in CHina, but apparenty uses Japanese glass. Some will probably tell you its not much of an "upgrade" from the Banner--- For target shooting at 50 and a 100, maybe you want thinner crosshairs. I traded my scope in for a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50. With the Viper, I can finally see a clarity/resolution difference from the Nighteater.

I love mine, I have used it shooting in a light rain and wind and had no problem finding the target at 100 yards. It is very clear to me more clear that the Bushnell I have on another rifle. Some people bash them some love them. Has kept zero for a few years now and that is going on both range and hunting trips.

If you can go to a store that has them in stock and look through a few diffrent brands.

I had a niko sterling on my howa 1500 in .308 and it was a good glass if once you zeroed your optics you DONT TOUCH IT again. the clicks barely have any tactile feeling and does not like to return to zero. Once it is dialed in, it is OK. Just don't fiddle with it. That being said, it does its job but falls way short of being a quality optic.
