I am looking for some low cost optics for one of my AR's. I am looking at red dot scopes mostly and looking for something <$200 with decent clearity and durability. Let know what is out there that might fit the bill.

What do you consider low cost? What kind of shooting will you be doing with it?sigpic -
Seen these?
I have this on one of my ARs. Works fine:

Take a look at the Vortex Strikefire. Great low cost red dot setup for an AR. They have a special kit that comes with an extra high ring mount to but you at the ideal optical center. This will be a nice sight and work well for you or hold you over if you upgrade in the future:

If this AR is for range plinking, I don't see anything wrong with going with something less expensive. There is plenty of options in the $200 price range. If I was going to use it for any type of defensive situation, then I would probably spend more and save up for an Aimpoint.
I have a cheap 2x Truglo on my KelTec and it works just fine. I can hit steel plates out to 400 yards with the $80 Truglo just as easily as I can with the $800 ACOG that is on my AR.
Don't have any 1st hand knowledge, but a lot of CG'ers seem to like the Vortex line-up: http://www.cstactical.com/Vortex-Opt.../Vortex-OpticsComment

25-50 yards? Use the barrel or get some iron sights
if you HAVE to have a red dot, get a primary arms

Been doing some looking online and I think I am going to put up the extra $$ and buy an Eotech 512. I have gone the cheap route and although I have never had any major issues the quality just is not there and I was disappointed.Last edited by rjh4758; 04-28-2011, 7:45 AM.Comment

I mostly run irons but I have a Vortex Strikefire (red only..the bright one) and its been great for my use. The 'doubler' it comes with is a nice touch. I have had no issues with it. Well...I dont really like the lens covers, mine are a pita to close, but its a small annoyance. Unless you need something smaller and lighter its a great choice.Comment
