Can I sight in my scope at 25 yards?

I have a Savage Mark II FV in .17 HM2 with a Leupold Rimfire Scope. I've gone through the manual, and they're all generic it seems. It says you can bore sight at 25-50 yards, and then to take shots. The next reference it makes is to three shots, assuming 100 yards to make MOA corrections.

So, I'd like to sight in my rifle at an indoor range to avoid wind. The farthest i'll be shooting is 100-200 yards at most, so I don't know which sighting in distance is best.

Sight it in about an inch low at 25 yards and you will be close at 100. You do need to refine the zero at actual distance as a short range zero is an approximation at best.

So, its not worth paying to go sight in at 25 if I just have to do it again, right?

As I said, short range sight-in's are just an approximation and will never be on the money at the actual distance you want to be sighted for.

It is however a very good idea to get a short range zero before heading out to shoot at 100-200 yards as it can be very frustrating to sort out a zero at 100+ yards if you aren't in the ballpark already.

What Geoff said. I sight in at 25 and then go to 100 and then for a 3-gun rifle, zero at 200. Doing it in steps, is a hell of lot less time and effort than trying to zero it cold.

A little bit of extra effort pays off in the end.

If you're willing to make a drive, p2k shooting range in el cajon has a 100yd indoor range. They also have a skeet n trap and archery range to help make your trip worth it.

Short range sight in is only approximate. I run my AR's at 35 yards, then do the final at 300 yards. 100 yards sounds about right for a rimfire.
