Smith Enterprises or if you really wanna drop some coin go with the KAC mount.

Smith Enterprises and Sadlak are probably considered the best. There is also ARMS, which sits the lowest of all the mounts, but that is not always a good thing. Stay away from Springfield's mounts (generations 1 through 3), as they are pretty much crap (Not sure about the new 4th generation mounts). If you are thinking about mounting an ACOG (which I do not recommend) there is the GDI/Trijicon mount.

Do you know if your receiver is "in spec"? If not, it may be a bit more difficult to get some mounts to fit properly. If you are not sure, you can get a receiver inspection kit from Sadlak for $5. If your specs don't match, Sadlak will customize the mount to fit your receiver for an extra $50 on top of the price of the mount. But they'll credit you back your $5

Or, just get a Bassett. It may not look as pretty as the others but it works and is stupidly easy to install. Lots of good reviews over on tfl.com. Oh yeah, and it's a lot cheaper than the others.

It's not that you can't, it's just not as easy as a traditional scope. Just to try it out, I put my TA33 (normally on my AR) on my buddies M1A with an ARMS mount and we both hated it. A few problems:
                1. Eye relief. Many ACOG's have a short eye relief, some under 2". Unless you are looking at one of the low magnification ACOGS (2x and under) you will need to get an extended scope mount. The mounts that I am aware of are the GDI/Trijicon, Smith Enterprises ACOG mount and maybe the 4th gen Springfield mount. Or you can try to rig up some type of cantilever system that will get the scope closer to your eye.
                2. Height. ACOGS sit up pretty high. You are going to need a really big cheek riser, unless you like shooting with your chin on the stock instead of your cheek.
                3. Not as versatile. Don't get me wrong, ACOGs are great, but being fixed power you may be limiting yourself where a variable scope will give you more options.

If you are set on getting an ACOG, it's doable, just make sure you do your research. I would hate for you to spend a ton of money and not get exactly what you were hoping for.

ACOG for 7.62 right now just don't work on a m14/m1a for the reasons sumo99 indicated. You are better off with a low height, long eye relief system of your liking. I have read a few people doing it anyway and are just unhappy with the results.

i'm experimenting right now with an SEI (smith) and a bassett, the standard (non-picatinny) model. the SEI is big and solid, while the bassett is ridiculously fast and easy to put on and take off.

both let you use the iron sights, which is a selling point for me; not all mounts do. the SEIs (and the sadlaks) have a channel down the center of the rail, while the bassetts mount high enough that you can see under most scope bells.

You can throw a Trijicon Accupoint on one. Plenty of eye relief through it and their tritium\fiber amplified light reticules.

I use a 3rd Gen 3-point mount with locktite. It has not moved.

I have used the TA01 .308 reticle ACOG with a TA51 mount on an M14. I do not recall what base I was using; on the account I was in the Army at the time and did not think about such things. You absolutely need a cheek pad/riser to get your eye up to optical center. Eye relief was tight but I didn't have any issues with it.
