    Optic for AK??

Looking for an optic for an AK. Have a quad rail mounted on the forearm. Any recommendations? I have an EOtech 517 on my AR and like it, but I think that model might be a little too big/heavy.

Not trying to start a ***** storm, but I've heard of some optics being cooked when mounted over the gas tube. Anybody have any experience with this? Any and all info welcomed.

Try the strikefire, the battery is not mounted on the bottom of the scope.

the midwest industries rail that i use doesn't touch the gas tube. i've ran a smoking hot 120rd string with my eotech and it wasn't even that hot.

          my ninja-fied ak

Racky, "buy American" and AK don't belong in the same sentence

I'm stuck between getting this one or an eotech 512 for my SAR-1. I have the ultimak gas tube rail but I think it'd be easier to have it mounted on my side mount

And how much is one of the kobra red dots?

I actually replaced a 512 with the Kobra.
The 512 was on a side mount though.

As far as the price of the Kobra, hard to say. They dont really import them into the USA anymore as I understand, so they can be a bit hard to find, if and when you do Ive heard of them selling for up to 500 new.

You might want to consider getting one 2nd hand, which is what I did.
I picked one up from the used forums here for 200 dollars.

What side mount did you use to mount the eotech?

And I could a website selling them new, but they were 400 and cost more than the eotech. I'm thinking about just getting the eotech on a side mount not only because it's cheaper but if anything happens to it, eotech customer service would be easier to get a hold of

it was some cheap POS my buddy picked up at a local gun show.
The thing to keep in mind is that the Eotech 512 is NOT a light optic, plus the side mount it really adds some heft to your rifle. It wasnt unmanageable, but not ideal.

Also remember, the Eotech sits at a hight designed to co-witness to iron sights on the same plane, in the case of mounting one on a side mount, this translates to a VERY tall optic. So unless your head is MASSIVE, you can pretty much count a good cheek weld out, unless you are going to pad your stock or put a cheek riser of sorts on it. Technically, its not an issue being that Eotechs are parallax free, but I still find a good cheek weld is key to making consistent shots.

Hmmmm I guess if I do go with the eotech I'll try it out on the rail on my gas block first.
