slide milled or not milled ?

I'm thinking about getting my slide milled down to go with my Burris fastfire 2 but its permanent. there is a base plate i can get but, it makes the sight sit up higher. if the sight sits lower ,then i could co-witness with the iron sights . Glock Worx said they just came out with a base plate that has a slot for a iron rear sight that can get changed back and forth from red dot to iron sights. the only thing is , its around $100 bucks. $ 165 for the milled slide. thats alot of money. is putting the slide lower that much better or is just putting a base plate on good enough. i want to get into IPSC shooting.

I'm not a fan of slide mounted optics. As an open shooter, I can see my dot during the firing cycle since it's mounted to the frame. Can't do that with a slide mounted optic and think it's inherently slower.

If you want to shoot open, shoot open and do it with a mount from like SJC. They have super small compact mounts for the Glock that's a simple matter of swapping pins. Here's a couple of options:
