Range Finder review

I had started a thread a few weeks ago about getting a piece of crap ATN rangefinder that they no longer make or sell.

in the thread alot of people said ATN was crap, and people offered up other rangefinders such as Bushnell, Nikon etc.

Problem is right now I just dont have the money to spend 300 to 500 dollars on a quality named brand rangefinder.

So I ran across one from sportsmans guide (I know I know, no one likes them) anyway it was $89.00. states it is good for 800 yards.

One of the reviews said 800 yards isnt realistic, they said 800 yards for a reflective surface, they said more like 300 - 500 yards typically.

Other than that, rest of the reviews were good.

I figured I would buy it, and if it didnt work, then I would just return it.

I got it in today. and am pretty happy with it so far. It is REAL small and compact. and it seems to be very accurate.

For me personally I think it is well worth the $89.00 right now I am not even coming close to shooting anything more than 100 yards because I dont have anywhere to shoot farther than that at the moment. I figure if this thing can accurately go out to 500 yards +/1 1 yard. then it is well worth it.

I know most of you would probably prefer to spend more money on a better rangefinder, but thought I would post it up for others like myself who are a little tight at the moment but would still like to get a rangefinder that works.

Why not just save the $89 towards the better quality model and practice using your reticle to range the targets in the mean time?

Because I have never used a rectile before to range targets and when I started looking at it the calculations you have to make I didn't feel like messing with it.

I already have the rangefinder in, received it today. And from what I have read up on determining range using a rectile you need a reference for height. so you have to look at something, guess what the height is and then based off that guess you use that to determine distance.

if that is correct I felt why mess with that when I can get this range finder that is good within +/- 1 yard. it would probably be better than my guessing using a rectile.

Anyway, I didn't start this thread for any other reason than to share my experience with this rangefinder. of course there are better ones out there. but not everyone has a lot of money to drop and this one is pretty inexpensive and does a decent job.
