    Wheeler Engineering Level-Level-Level

    Hi everyone:

I'm trying to get the reticle on a Trijicon Accupoint level on top of my most recent 18" build. The Wheeler Engineering Level-Level-Level looks like a great product; however, it states it works only with bolt action rifles and from the site:

"The magnetic base in the rifle level bridges the bolt raceway, allowing you to position your rifle almost perfectly level."

My question is, will this device work with an AR pattern rifle? I'll be using it on a BCM upper receiver with a LaRue Tactical SPR/M4 mount and the Accupoint.

As always ... THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!

    Yes, it will work.
I have used it on my AR's using Trijicon Accupoints.

Thanks! Now you may be able to help me with another question ... do you know of a good collimator bore sighter? I'm looking for the one that features a grid and caliber specfic spuds (non-magnetic) for my 5.56 barrel. I can't seem to find any for the 5.56

I tried to imitate the level-level-level while throwing an Accupoint 3x9 (standard crosshair reticle with tritium so beautiful I could cry) on a LR308 with a bunch of mini levels, a couple of torpedo levels, and a 2-foot level. I got the table level. I got the rifle vise level. I got the rifle level--verified on the rail and the receiver, the bottoms of the rings level, carefully placed the scope in the bottom half of the rings, leveled the scope, carefully applied the ring tops, carefully screwed the bolts in, triple checking everything constantly, and the scope was just rolling in the rings with every turn of the bolts. After much fussing around I gave up.

I'm going to try a different set of rings. I originally planned on the steel rings I bought for max strength but now I was looking at aluminum Burris or Weaver or Trijicon, and I just ordered the Burris rings. They seem well made and I like the look-through and light weight. The Weaver rings had the option of additional rail space on the top ring, which would be cool, I could see a red-dot and a bubble level, but I must go KISS to keep with the theme of the collection. The Trij rings were pricey and 6 months out, but what if they went together without a scope mounting kit? Because now I'm thinking that without confirming alignment and lapping the hell out of the rings if necessary, I will be mounting the scope in less than ideal conditions no matter how accurately the rifle and scope are leveled. At least a couple of the rifle books I own mention the importance of mechanical accuracy while mounting the scope.

Also, I saw a cgn thread recently polling either rings or a one-piece mount. I'm glad I went rings because of the wider range of adjustability and I'm all about making my rifles fit me.

To me, sighting in is easy, or at least, I am better prepared for it. Bore sighting, then laser sighting, then an hour or less at the range with 20 or less ccb rounds, done and zeroed. The actual scope mounting is a real pain. Maybe after I spring for the mounting kit I'll feel different. Dang if the rifle isn't expensive enough, look at all the support equipment: Scope mounting kit, bore guide, back-up parts, Storm case, etc...dang... OK whine over. Can't wait to spend fun time behind this scope. Dreaming about ordering a larger Accupoint for my Rem700 if I ever recover from my AR308 build.

Went to order Butler flip-ups for the Accupoint but the reviews on Brownells spooked me. Also I wonder how diopter adjustment is possible with a ring on top of the adjuster ring, seems awkward. The Loopy objective threaded cap looks good but without a mate for the rear seems like it would be better to go with the stock bikini for now. This is such a great scope I can't believe how few aftermarket accessories there are for it.

All you 3x9 accupointers should be chiming in to help us noobs. Later!!
