I just purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical that am primarily using for a range gun and am looking for good glass recommendations. I'd like to spend around $200-$300 or so, so don't have a huge budget. I have poor vision and wear glasses so looking for something that has a wide field of view and that has good magnification (ideally will be looking at 100-200 range for most of it, but would like to go out further occasionally). Tactical w/ mil dot is what I'm thinking in terms of retical...any thoughts? I've looked at Nikon and heard good things...Are NCstar's any good? Would appreciate any suggestions on that please...also, what about rings? First long gun, so my only experience with scopes/mounting is with my AR and that's rail style, so don't know much about rings or what makes them good or bad....thanks!!!

Scope and Rings recommendations please

Take a look at the Vortex scopes. They make good solid optics for good fair prices. Skip the NCstar...low quality. I'm running the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 on my SPS Tactical, but that's out of your price range, so look at the Crossfire and Diamondback series that's within your budget. As for rings, I'm running Burris Zee rings. Not too pricey and works well. There are a lot of different brands out there though, so hope onto midwayusa and research around.

SWFA
Most of the snipers over at the Hide recommend them as the best scope for around $350
I got one and it is a great scope especially if your going to be turning the knobs. There are sniper everywhere and nowhere.....who knows what is out there.

I have a Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40 and I am very happy with it. It's waiting for my Remington 700 SPS tactical(3-6 week wait
).

Midway has a few Bushnell 3200's on sale right now:I just purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical that am primarily using for a range gun and am looking for good glass recommendations. Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical Rifle Scope 10x 40mm Mil-Dot Reticle Matte (MIL/MOA) for $153.99

Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical Rifle Scope 10x 40mm 1/10 Mil Adjustments Mil-Dot Reticle Matte (MIL/MIL) for $174.99

I would drop the extra $20.00 and go with the MIL/MIL (second one linked/pictured), but folks have been hitting steel using 10X and MIL/MOA for years and the sky hasn't fallen just yet.
A search over at the Hide shows positive reviews:

Skip all that NC/Barska type crap. For 300, the above Bushnell (mil version) with a one piece EGW or Weaver picatinny base and TPS low rings are a great combo. I have the mil/mil version myself in TPS rings. The scope is a solid piece of glass, repeatable, and durable. The glass is nice as are the turrets. The TPS rings are actually very nice. I also use Seekins which are generally considered top tier and the TPS aren't lacking a whole lot in comparison.Comment
