    Which ACOG and why?

Looking at these tow for use on my new SCAR.

At MSRP they are both the same price.. so which one would be better to get and why?

    TA01-ECOS

    Or

    TA31-ECOS
Browse a HUGE selection of hunting rifles & shotguns, gun parts, gunsmithing tools, reloading equipment, ammo, and more! Brownells: Since 1939

The top one has an amber reticle and it doens't have the fiber optic option.. While they are both similar MSRP the one missing the fiber optic deal is cheaper to buy by a couple of hundred bucks. I do slightly prefer the red reticle, but it's not a deal killer.

First ACOG here, what do you think of the differences between these.

TA-01 is best for shooting LD as it has a BDC reticle with standard crosshair for aiming.

The TA-31 is best for general engagement from CQ to 350 meters as the triangle (or doughnut) fairly accurately represents the impact area you are dealing with at those distances and requires less thought to use.

If you want the ACOG most folks refer to when they say the word ACOG, the TA-31 is the one

Thanks.. that's the kind of insight I was hoping for.. I know of a TA01 being sold for $1250.. and that's $400 cheaper than the TA31 but it sounds like the TA31 would be the better way to go.

I would never recommend a person buy an ACOG that does not have the fiber optic portion. It is one of the things that makes me happy I bought it. I personally like the TA33, extra magnification and wider FOV.

BTW, that setup you linked to is a bundled package with mount AND a Docter red dot sight grafted on top. The basic ACOG system does NOT come with the Docter sight. I would recommend buying a plain old TA-31 without the red dot googaw up top for now. Add one later if you feel the need. You can get a decent red dot for a lot less than it is priced at in that bundle deal

Also, there are a lot more TA-31's than just the A model with the triangle. Here is the full list of TA-31 models at the Trijicon website. I personally like the F model with chevron rather than triangle. The doughnut reticle version (basic TA-31) is a good choice too.

BTW, you should be able to find a basic TA-31 (plain, A, F, H or whichever model you want) with a rail adapter for in the range of $1100-1200 if you shop around. The TA-11 (3x magnification versus 4x for the TA-31) is also a very good choice.

TA-31F (chevron reticle) for $1170 at JP Rifles (includes rail mount adapter).

I love my TA31F. I used to have a TA01NSN. It was nice but I wanted that extra illum the fiber optic provides. I do have a TAO1 with a Larue mount you could have for $750 though.

Well, it's bundled from Trijicon with the Doc.. and to be honest, I'm willing to pay a slight premium for FDE and the FED units have the Doc.. Se La Vie..

I get you on the reticle deal.. it's almost dizzying how many choices there are. The link I posted was just an example, I don't really like the triangle, but I do like the Chevron.. although the Donut seems like it might be better. Having not used either it's hard to know.

Here's the one I was looking at.. a decent price considering it comes with the killflash (which I don't really need) and the scope coat... and no tax or shipping.

There really are a ton of choices.. makes it tough.

If you are dead-set on a red dot up top, thats an OK deal I guess considering the Docter is $450+ without the scopetop mount and the killflash goes for about $30 most places.

If you aren't in a hurry, try finding some different ones to look through before you jump on anything. This price-point will still be there in a month or two, might even find cheaper by then

BTW, the JPoint red dot sight JP Rifles sells is just as good as a Docter IMO and $200 less. JP has a scopetop mount for it too. They were the first company to develop that mount system for the miniature Optima style red dots when they first appeared early this century.

Try giving them a call on the phone and see if they have a bundled price on an ACOG with a JPoint up top instead of the Docter. I'll bet you they can beat that price in the link you posted.

JP is a reputable Trijicon retailer. I have the JP custom reticle version of the TA-01 that JP Rifles had developed by Trijicon specifically for their CTR-02 model flat-top AR's. Great scope :-)

definitly run a fiber optic unit. I have an accupoint and could not imagine the advantage during the day until i started using it.

Search around, you can find it cheaper. Example:http://www.red-dot-scopes.com/trijic...4x32-ta31.html

Not sure if that's the cheapest around, but red dot scopes was the cheapest when I bought my TA33. Oh, then I went to SWFA and did the 110% guarantee and got another $20 knocked off.

I did the same thing when buying my TA33G-H. SWFA to get it even cheaper.

With no fiber optics, you give this up:
