I'm looking for a high magnification scope under $300.00. I want it it be at least 24x with variable magnification 50mm and as far as reticle I'm not sure mildot? or what ever you you recommend. This will be for mostly long range shooting out of my ar15, 200 to 400 yards. Every once in a while maybe out to 600 yards. But I would like to be able to shoot close as well(100 yards or less).

Edit I will very rarely shoot at 600 yard I would just like the ability to in a scope. I usually shoot 400 yards and less.Last edited by coltn46920; 12-28-2010, 4:45 PM.Originally posted by deadcoyoteI will sit by the freshwater creek that runs through my yard and laugh, wait for the bay area folks to start trickling north, then sell off my cheapie C&R collection at inflated prices. You're not likely to be able to have a $200 24x scope do double duty as a spotter. You might be able to spot your target and that's about it.NRA Benefactor Life Member

I'd buy the Vortex between those two. I have a Vortex Viper which has better glass and build than the Crossfire and cannot see .284 holes at 400 on 16x. I never go past 14x to shoot at 1000 yds due to mirage and narrowing field of view. Magnification does not allow one to shoot farther.I was looking at this scope what do you think?

I have a cheap variable spotting scope that goes up 60x I use for spotting at 100 yards and it kinda sucks.....Yes I can see my holes but they aren't real sharp......I doubt you can get anything useful at that price and magnification. I'd ask for the best $300 scope you can get and then pickup a spotting scope......and a $69 spotting scope looks like it when you look through it zoomed in.Originally posted by Daytripper63"Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck.
