Sightron III 1050x6FCH Scopes

Has anyone used or own the Sightron III 1050x60 scope? I am looking tomaybe put one on top of a 50 for long range target shooting,(over 800 yrds).
And yes, it is a 50bmg, I am over next door in Arizona with lots of open places to shoot and a 1000 yd line at our local range as well.

Naw, not really, I figure you folks on the left bank have some darn good shooters that like to shoot off the bench or on a rug up close to mother nature.
I have a 50 that has been sitting in the safe waiting on a scope and I have read most of what I can find on scopes in this price range. I was looking at the Bushnell #426245F 4200 series but I am now looking at the Sightron since they are lifetime warranty and supposed to have glass like a Nightforce.
Also, having lived in Santa Ana and El Toro in the 70s for many years I thought old boys there might just have a good review for me.

Sightron 10-50x60

When I got the first 10-50, I compared it against a Nightforce NXS 12-42x I had.

I set the two scopes up on a table today, about 3" apart from each other so I could bounce back and forth between them. I aimed them at a rooftop about 100-110 yards away - which was the furthest thing I could see from my court. I realize this is completely unscientific and totally subjective. I didn't have color charts or eye charts to focus on at distance. I had concrete roof tile striations and a bird crap to look at. Just my observations, nothing more.

I knew the Sightron didn't come with a sunshade, the Nightforce does. The Nightforce costs an extra $8-900 bucks, I get that. I'd rather spend an extra $20-30 and have it come with one. Optically speaking, if they weren't side by side, I wouldn't have been able to tell any difference between the two. I set them at 12x, 30x, 42x and then bumped the Sightron to 50x. Clarity appeared to be about the same to me, I couldn't tell a difference. The Sightron seemed as though I was looking through a larger diameter tube compared to the Nightforce. So, the Sightron seemed like it might have been ever so slightly brighter - again, not noticeable if they weren't side by side. The Sightron was more critical of head position but did have a little more eye relief, it was still easier to get into position to see through the Nightforce.

I haven't weighed them yet, but the Sightron is listed at about 4oz. lighter. Which, as in my case, if you're trying to make weight on a "light-gun" could be of importance. The Nightforce has a proven track record, the Sightron has yet to prove itself.

With similar pricing, what might be a difficult decision would be a LNIB Nightforce BR model with a reticle you prefer vs. a brand new Sightron with limited reticle selection.

I'm happy with my purchase, actual range time will tell if it was a good one.

I have four Nightforce 12-42x BR's and went a little overboard and just bought five of the Sightron 10-50's. I had a NF 12-42x NXS but it was too heavy and put my new lightgun over the weight limit by 3 oz, so I sold it.

Anyway, if I were building a varmint gun or target gun where I was going to be shooting multiple distances, I would go for the Nightforce. The Sightron has a very narrow focus range compared to the Nightforce. The Sightron is more critical of head position vs. the Nightforce as well. The Sightron is much more limited in reticle selection too. Optically, the Sightron is a nice scope, but the little caveat's above add up (as negatives). I intend to put the Sightron's on my Benchrest guns since I'm only shooting at one distance and can dial in the focus and leave it. I plan to move the Nightforces to my other rifles that I plink with at the range and open fields.

I used both the Sightron and Nightforce BR in the NBRSA 600 yard Nats. If I could get a used Nightforce BR for what I paid for the Sightron's new, I would get the Nightforce every time. However, a used Nightforce BR does cost several hundred more than what I paid, so the Sightron's will stay for now. The first Sightron I bought didn't come with any lens caps, I sent it back. The five Sightrons that I have now, all came with (cheapo) flip up lens caps...better than nothing I guess.

I would spend the money and get a nightforce 5.5-22 or a Razor HD. I don't think the higher magnification of the sightron is really necessary unless you are shooting strictly benchrest.

What local range is that? Reasonably close to the Phoenix area? I may be moving there soon.

Adair Park is just north of Yuma,(home) and is free/open to public and has a 1000 line and it starts with 200 and comes back a 100 at a time. It is a little rough last time I was there but the rest of the park is nice. Steel animals out past 450 and a nice black powder, a bow, and a PPC course and police and of course the police ranges....It has open areas with high breams where you can bring your stuff and set up out to about 125yds for whatever you can dream up to shoot at.
A rnage master lives out there, nice guy, shooting events ongoing every week of one sort or another.
It is about 25 miles north just before you get to the Army proving grounds(YPG) as we call it here abouts.
