eotech 557 with g23 magnifer thoughts?

I am looking at getting the eotech 557 with mag combo to mount on my stag.
Here are my thoughts what are yours?
I like the size of the circle but dont think I like the bullet drop. It is rated for a 223 and I have a 6.8 not much diff but from what I hear with out the magnifer it is crowded. Thoughts?
I plan to use this for hunting so how well does the 3x work?
    Any issues anyone?

The BDC dots on the 557 are not discernible without a magnifier. Without one, you'll just see a solid line, instead of aiming dots.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't go with a variable scope for hunting.

come on I hunt cali public property where if you are lucky enough to spot a buck he is on the run from 60 other people on the same hill. I dont see many long range shots out here. I am from CO and there yes long range is key. Here it is all speed and short shots.
I was looking at the accupoint but cant seem to find one local that I can look at. I dont buy anything at that price with out playing with it first

A low powered variable (1-4X or 1.5-5X) will satisfy your needs. I have the TR24 and it's just as fast as my AimPoint M2.

I will have to look at the TR24. I was looking at an acog and it just seemed to have a really small horse shoe kinda hard to see and inside it was fuzzy walk outside and it clears up

I thought this at first when I recieved mine. The thing is you need to adjust the brightness level and not just have it turned all the way up.. Once you get the brightness to match the conditions it no longer looks "busy" and blury. I also have the 3x magnifier and its awesome, you can pick up a target easily at 100yrds only take a second aim. However, if your not planning on shooting past 100m then you might be better off with a single dot.

9" steel plate about 5 feet off the ground. Standing. Only optic I own is the
3x and its not enough to make out where the shots are hitting the plate. This weekend I am going to try it at 200+yrds with with a bi-pod installed.

Give you an idea of what it looks like. Keep in mind that the brightness in these pics is turned up way to high, causing the blurry effect. I'm north of Sac if you want to try it out.

So are you saying at 100 yards with the 3x it is or isnt accurate?

I'm saying that I can hit a 9" steel plate at 100yrds without taking much time to aim; and that 3x isn't enough for me to see the grouping.

Negative, this is all I have used. The Leupold tactical scope looks pretty good too.

the eotech and magnifier is an awesome combo.
however, for that much price spent take a look at the accupoint 1-4 or even for less money the 1.25-4.
that would be better for short range hunting. the eotech setup is more cqb and the occasional longer shot where you have a somewhat static target. the eotech magnified is not ideal for moving targets because of the less FOV and eye relief.
much better sight picture with the accupoint in that application, huge eye relief and forgiving on eye postion vrs the eotech setup which loses on eye relief and altogether less quick to get on target (in magnified mode)

ah, and heres a great place to get one. http://www.calssportingarmory.com/Tr..._p/trtr21r.htm
the emailed qoute is super cheap.
